@sentdefender So, essentially, Iran is giving up its enriched uranium stockpile in exchange for tariff and sanctions relief so that it can build back its missile capability in order to strike Israel much harder next time? Sounds like a good deal or Iran to me.
English

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has said that as part of a potential deal with Iran, “there will be no enrichment of uranium, and the United States will, working with Iran, dig up and remove” all of Iran’s buried enriched material. Additionally, the president said that sanctions relief will also be the topic of negotiations. This, as Iran continues to launch strikes against Israel and their Gulf neighbors.

@Pinkponyclub777 @uncledoomer @vers_laLune The beatniks were terrible people, their culture sucked, so yes, very comparable with hipster culture.
English

@uncledoomer @vers_laLune I will always defend hipster culture. Modern beatniks
English

@balancedoutt @uncledoomer Easier than ever to find good music, but no one seems to do it. If anything the cultural scope of music is narrower. I can stream everything from klezmer to mongolian throat signing, but all anyone seems to listen to is pop schlock.
English

@uncledoomer you have to be beyond retarded to think music is bad right now. its easier than ever for good artists to distrubute their music. worst take ive seen on this account

@ettingermentum Kind of makes Ron Johnson so much more interesting how does he win. ?
English

@ettingermentum I'd much rather have an Assembly majority and a less politicized Supreme Court, but the Walker-era Republicans decided to play cut-throat so we're here governing the state with the Governors office and Supreme Court shenanigans.

@HotSotin Why is there no data for North Korea during the period when it was wealthier and more developed than the South?

@BN9195 It's not like any one nation in the West had fully autarchic control of all of this technology either. The Soviet Union's problem was that they were cut off and sanctioned from high-end capital goods and technology while also dependent on imports. This lead to financial collapse.
English

People need to understand this. Truth is the USSR never got anywhere close to the West in most tech not just chemicals. Even in military they probably only caught up in nuclear missiles and subs, then that’s it. China today is a completely different story of course.
Phryne Astynome@PAstynome
The Soviet chemical sector was highly dependent on Western equipment and technology and even after receiving the equipment/technology, it was a net importer of chemicals from the West. cia.gov/readingroom/do…

@NoWorldOrder85 @cym27s I love how people jump to the craziest conspiracies because they're somehow more believable to them than the fact that the US has lost control and can't win a war.

@haravayin_hogh Do you know why this is the case? Is the architecture profession particularly strong and well protected there? I frequently see examples of really nicely designed, but modestly sized buildings there.
English

Iran seems one of the only countries that regularly produces beautiful and functional architecture. Contrast is especially stark with modern Arab kitsch or Israeli mass prefrabicated concrete pillboxes, yet Iran has a small fraction of their money.

@L0ngbottom_Leaf @buttlover38 @yengyosi_ The Saturnalia thing was postulated by 16th century Protestants who opposed the celebration of Christmas. There was a belief that the world was created on March 25th and one Church father decided that meant Jesus was conceived on that day.
English

@FithianJimmy @yengyosi_ Have you read the Gospels or are you just basing this off of stuff you heard online? I used to be a mythicist before I learned more and actually read the Gospels. Mythicism is motivated reasoning from atheists built off of motivated reasoning from 19th C. German protestants.
English

@yengyosi_ mythicist growing in numbers. Everything about the character in the Bible called Jesus matches the way a myth would evolve. No physical description, no detailed biography, his story immediately goes to him fulfilling prophecy. That’s not a real person
English

@WilliamJosephh @ArtsyMarx1st Then there's the absence of the deaths of Peter and Paul, two of the most prominent characters in Acts. Having mentioned the martyrdoms of James and others, to omitt them places Luke and Acts and consequently one or both of Mark and Matthew before Paul's death in the mid 60's AD
English

@WilliamJosephh @ArtsyMarx1st The big aha moment for me came when I saw the slips into first person in Acts. Defenders of the late dating have to come up with crazy mental gymnastics to explain them. The Temple prophesy is the strongest evidence for late dating, but in the religious context it makes sense 1/3
English

posts like this are funny cuz sure, but jesus wasnt a real guy. theres no evidence beyond anecdotal that he was real, and most details of his life are borrowed from other religions. so its like a bunch of ppl arguing over what hercules looked like.

Just a reminder for Christian's celebrating Easter this week. Jesus looked like the guy in the first picture - not the second.
English

@WilliamJosephh @ArtsyMarx1st The Sadducees and their temple were a main target of criticism. In John you see already a metaphorical interpretation of the prophesy had developed, which wouldn't make sense if the Romans had already destroyed the Temple. They'd fit the prophesy to what actually happened. 2/3

@thetobifaj @PopBase What are you talking about? The angle is different, but that's definitely Africa in the 2026 photo. The South Pole is towards the top of the picture.
English

It’s funny how fast the replies turned this into Earth’s official glow-down.
These are actually opposite sides of the planet, the 1972 Blue Marble was Africa-centered while the 2026 shot is Australia and the Pacific, so the cloud patterns and lighting were never going to match.
Modern sensors just capture sharper atmospheric detail than 1970s film ever could. Still makes the whole “pale blue dot” feel a little more fragile when you stare at it.
