It’s not just about getting enough Democrats to vote for reparations. We’ve had Democratic majorities & reparations was never a priority. Our job is to PUSH Democrats to prioritize our issues. If not, we could get a filibuster proof Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate, a majority in the House, and a Democrat in the White House & still never get a reparations bill to the floor, let alone passed. Obama was a Democrat & the first Black president. He opposed reparations. He would’ve still opposed reparations regardless of how large of a majority he had in Congress. Politics 101 is understanding that we need a more radical Democratic Party if we’re ever going to get more radical Democratic policies. Just electing more Democrats & hoping for the best won’t get us there. The current iteration of the Democratic Party won’t get us there. Roland Martin won’t get us there. These are accommodationist people who only produce accommodationist outcomes. And it’s right to point out that a generational shift may be what’s necessary to transform the Democratic Party. Roland Martin once called reparations a pipe dream. He’s emblematic of everything that’s wrong with the Democratic Party.

Sports became the "golden ticket" out of impoverished circumstances...and into white acceptance. Even when Kaepernick took a position...he did so against 4 decades of that backdrop.
