Only God has the authority to forgive sins against Him, as affirmed in Mark 2:7 and Luke 5:21. Mark 2:7 [7] “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Luke 5:21 [21] And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Jesus alone is presented as the exception to the rule that no created being can forgive sins, as His ability to declare sins forgiven is cited as evidence of His divine nature and identity as God in the flesh. In John 20:23, when Jesus tells His disciples, "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them," this is interpreted not as granting them independent power to absolve sin, but as commissioning them to proclaim the gospel and declare God's forgiveness to those who repent.

@BosCityJMJ Cradle Catholics have their own issues. I'm speaking about a particular issue at this moment.

We actually do have a serious "convert problem" in the media. I know some people say we should never ever question the sincerity of converts, but at this point we have a steady pipeline of high-profile converts immediately causing scandal and division, and it has to be addressed. The Church has a long tradition of scrutinizing and imposing disciplines on catechumens and new Catholics. Catechumens in certain disapproved professions used to have to quit their job before they could be baptized. We are not historically an unconditional "all are welcome" Church. If a public figure is entering the Church it should be made very clear to her that becoming Catholic does not qualify her to teach the faith publicly. Of course this raises wider questions about laypeople "teaching" but at the very least there should be some kind of probation period.

A 30-year-old in 1980 owned a house like this working at the local factory. Married six years with three kids. Weekends meant Little League games. Both sets of grandparents lived within five miles. The kids would attend the same high school he did and grow up with the children of his own friends. This is a dying concept

Don't obsess over politics. Focus on prayer and staying out of sin. This will matter much more in your last moments.
