Pray ror these subversives

God did not give us a Bible. He gave us a Church.

Give an Old Calendarist one compliment today. It doesn’t have to be related to Orthodoxy at all. Just one nice thing.

Today is the feast day of St. Thomas Aquinas. We often see Thomas as inimical to the Orthodox tradition (and indeed he does have some problematic teachings), though we would all be blessed to have a fraction of his wisdom and piety. And it has been a mistake some have made to absolutize Orthodoxy’s opposition to scholastic methodology. May we be enriched by the divine wisdom and genius of Thomas.

We believe in literal Atonement and Substitution, but only figurative Penal. PSA uses the Penal to literally understand S and A. So salvation becomes about a retributive god who can't forgive without payment, which fundamentally means he's incapable of mercy. Whereas historically it wasn't literally legal, but ontological. My body and heart are healed in a real way by the Cross that makes me like God, and thus genuinely able to be His friend. For PSA, what keeps us from God is being rule breakers. For Theosis, the historical view, what keeps us from God is our hearts. Historically there was not the modern Salvation -Sanctification divide.

@PolemicusA6650 @Gedeon_Optinius @ErickYbarra3 Never a debt payment to the Father. That is Ronan catholic theology, it presumes sin is a crime& places God under compulsion.& the rcc executed people for their beliefs. John 3:16 has no legalism. Gud so loved the world. youtu.be/dJSP9NN1sEg?si…
