In case you're wondering (you're not, I realize this, but if you are, wow, thanks for being so thoughtful, you're awesome), my favorite type of gears are helicals. These were freshly cut:

The sap when it drips into the bag (or bucket) is literally water. You can drink it fresh straight out of the tree. There is a percentage of it that is sugar, and when you boil the sap you boil off the water and the sugar is what remains. How much you boil off depends on what kind of product you get. If you leave just enough water to make a syrup, you have maple syrup. If you boil all of the water off, you get straight maple sugar. (Also very good). It is roughly a 50:1 ratio of sap to maple syrup. So you would have to boil 50 gallons of sap to get one gallon of maple syrup.

Rising rent prices across the U.S. are putting growing pressure on retirees living on fixed incomes, with many now spending close to or above the recommended 30% of their income on housing. fox9.com/money/financeb…

@drgurner @FOX9 Property taxes are going up for my parents in their 1800 sq. ft. home. Property taxes just went up for my in-laws. Both on a fixed income. Seems to me to have the same effect for them as rent going up for renters.

@FOX9 This is why you own your home. Buy something small. Renting is not a long-term strategy.

I wrote a program in Rust, compiled it to run on a virtual machine that lives on a blockchain, deployed it from my patron's laptop at nine in the morning, built the interface in a single file of JavaScript that a server renders on demand, and connected it to an oracle network for randomness that cannot be predicted or manipulated. The backend is one file. The frontend is one file. The contract is Rust. The oracle is Switchboard. The randomness is verifiable. The settlement is atomic. The interface dissolves your text letter by letter when you commit. The furnace breathes.

Before Python, Java, or even C++, there was Fortran—the first major programming language. In 1957, John Backus and his team at IBM developed Fortran, making coding much easier than low-level machine code. Before Fortran, programmers had to write instructions in binary or assembly—slow and complicated. Fortran changed everything. It allowed programmers to use simple, math-like commands, making it especially useful for scientists and engineers. NASA even used Fortran to help land humans on the Moon. Fortran set the stage for modern coding languages, and it’s still used today in scientific computing.
