@ClaytonGuse 1) Barry was a barred owl 2) Woodcocks are migratory and just passing through, they don't stick around 3) They are killed frequently by striking glass, they eat worms which don't bioaccumulate poison

NYC killed its last two "hottest birds" Barry the Central Park snow owl ingested rat poision before hitting into a park truck. Flaco, the fugitive Eurasian eagle owl, also had rat poision in its system before flying into a building. Hope the woodcock survives this dirty town

New Yorkers and tourists are flocking to Bryant Park to get a glimpse of New York City’s hottest bird this spring, the American Woodcock. These elusive, well-camouflaged birds pause during their migration to forage for earthworms, presenting a unique urban birding opportunity.

@LegoRacers2 I don't think that's correct, mammal pollination is quite rare. Most palms are wind or insect pollinated. Did you mean seed dispersal is by the badger?

Extremely old Mediterranean fan palms. They usually take 10 years to even look like a tree, this much growth may be the result of a half-century careful watering. The only palm native to Western Europe, they have the rare dignity of being primarily pollinated by the common badger

@dmtrubman I'm sure this varies by station but at NYU 8th the security guard does nothing as people duck or jump the turnstile

Riding the subway on the weekend is a stark reminder that the security guards are WAY better at dettering fare evasion in NYC than the actual MTA employees, which doesn't say anything great about the ability of blue cities to develop state capacity with a unionized workforce.

my father rarely wanted to go other places, NYC is the greatest place in the world kind of guy, so the only time we'd drive somewhere far that wasn't family was to try an interesting restaurant he'd heard about (big italian guy, 300 pounds, escalade, you understand)

BREAKING: Cuomo has fled the NYC mainland following its fall to socialist Zohran Mamdani. Sources say he will establish a new govt on Staten Island with the goal of eventually reclaiming the entire city. Mamdani has promised to purge all remaining Cuomintang on the mainland.

This example is stupid, but they're starting to make food that's ultraprocessed that it comes back around to being healthy. We're not going back to whole foods, the only way through is forwards.
laulukaskas@clockstiqqun

one of the greatest lies the bourgeoisie ever pulled off was convincing people that processed food is bad for you. wonderbread is fortified with stupid amounts of vitamins not found in whole grain bougie bread, kraft singles are probably the densest protein source on earth etc
