Bottom line: on Trump’s watch, with regards to Iran: 1. Thirteen U.S. servicemembers have lost their lives 2. Over 3,000 Iranians were killed, including more than 100 school children and teachers 3. Oversight over Iran’s nuclear program has largely ended 4. Iran has realized the incredible power it holds in controlling the Strait of Hormuz 5. Iran now has access to billions of dollars of capital, without any restrictions in how to spend it, in charging ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz (which will add costs to oil prices) 6. Trump has enabled a new, harder line, more anti-American government to take power 7. Trump has set back support for regime changes in Iran by years if not decades 8. This war cost the U.S. roughly $100 billion, not only on bombing Iran, but damage to regional military infrastructure, plus munition depletions across our stocks and damage to the USS Ford, and costs U.S. consumers roughly $132 billion – not taking into account the billions of dollars of damage done to high-end U.S. bases in the region that sustained severe damage 9. Under the Trump Administration’s MOU, Iran gets immediate sanctions relief, a promise of $300 billion for reconstruction and economic development, and an additional $24 billion

As both a veteran and a policymaker, I’m deeply troubled by Donald Trump’s handling of the war in Iran. The administration’s objectives have shifted repeatedly. The costs have soared.
