Surprised to see so little chatter about Ethereum L2 DeFi TVL recently surpassing Solana
I invest in both ecosystems so this def isn't a tribal warfare post. But it does feel like a narrative violation that's gone mostly unnoticed
When Solana DeFi TVL overtook Ethereum L2s about 18 months ago, it was widely discussed. The consensus view amongst founders and investors was that it was directional: monolithic scaling was winning, the modular/L2 roadmap was losing, and the gap would only widen
But L2s quietly flipped back earlier this month. Combined L2 DeFi TVL (~$6.5B) now exceeds Solana (~$5.6B) after trailing for roughly 18 months
The biggest driver of that reversal is Base, which alone accounts for ~$4.3B (surprisingly close to Solana itself). It barely existed two years ago. This is Coinbase flexing that distribution muscle
If nothing else, it suggests the scaling debate is less resolved than the discourse assumed. And I suspect this won't be the last time the leader flips either

@MarkJCarney Investing abroad with debt for prosperity
Crazy how investing within our borders isn't the priority.

@unusual_whales If only investing in Canada with government debt didn't have such a rough ROI

@grugcapital Happy birthday Grug. Life only got better for me after 30. I bet that'll happen for you too, although you're already killin it

@TheHeightOfHype @cantonmeow Speculation on the future value of a better form of money
ETH won the L1 race, so if the future of the global monetary system values stability and neutrality, it'll end up here
English

@cantonmeow Their bull case is holding $ETH
Defi is the one thing keeping $ETH a relevant chain and due to hacks, that’s dying.
Since 2018 $ETH foundations every move has been to enrich themselves. Nothing to enhance the on chain experience for the user.
Legit honest question : Why

@ChairmanSelig @CFTC @SDNYnews Of all the myriad of insider trading cases to prosecute, you pick an ACTIVE duty US Army Serviceman. The one guy who probably deserves the extra money and the one guy who the general public could care less about. Hit the CONGRESS & SENATE members or GTFO with this bull shit man
English

I’ve been crystal clear: anyone who engages in insider trading in any of our markets will face the full force of the law. Today, the @CFTC took parallel action with @SDNYnews to charge an individual with insider trading involving event contracts.
The @CFTC won’t tolerate insider trading in our markets, and our Division of Enforcement will continue to vigilantly police our markets for any illegal actions.

Update on rsETH incident:
WETH reserves on the Ethereum Core V3 market have been unfrozen and users can supply WETH to Ethereum Core V3 again. WETH LTV remains at 0.
WETH reserves on Ethereum Prime, Arbitrum, Base, Mantle, and Linea remain frozen.
Aave service providers will continue to work on next steps and provide updates accordingly.
English

@chentani131 @cosmos_badkid @aave @StaniKulechov Imagine a world where your deposits, regardless of your decisions, were used to subsidize others decisions.
A cut from L1 ETH providers would kill institutional adoption of Defi. It was never an option.
English

@cosmos_badkid @aave @StaniKulechov Lol, you trying to save your ass just to not have a cut of a few %? Moreover the drained rETH was deposited to Mainnet, at least try to figure the whole picture, lmao
English

@aave @LlamaRisk L1 ETH providers did not sign up to cover the losses for those who take on more risk with L2's.
Option 2 is the only acceptable option that preserves Aave's reputation

Update on rsETH incident:
@LlamaRisk has published a report outlining the rsETH incident, the immediate actions taken, its impact on Aave, and potential paths forward.
All service providers have been working to assess the two potential bad debt scenarios on the Aave protocol.
Aave DAO service providers are also leading an effort with ecosystem participants to address any bad debt. This effort already has several indicative commitments from various parties and we are grateful for the strong support we have received so far.
We will share further updates as we have them.
In the meantime, the full report can be read here: governance.aave.com/t/rseth-incide…
English

@Dogetoshi We don't know the contents of the legal agreement between kelp and Aave.
That agreement informs this call by Aave.
Socializing the losses would be a terrible move. Bridged rsETH goes to 0 is the right play.
English

Why does Aave think they are the ones able to make the call here?
KelpDAO is gonna decide what happens to rsETH holders and Aave will pretty much have to follow along (or sue).
Aave@aave
Update on rsETH incident: According to our analysis, rsETH on Ethereum mainnet is fully backed. Out of an abundance of caution, rsETH remains frozen across Aave V3 and V4 and exposure to the incident is capped. WETH reserves also remain frozen across affected markets including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Mantle, and Linea. Aave is actively validating information and assessing potential resolutions.
