I’m not invested and don’t have any skin in the game, but I had the chance to talk with the team quite a bit while they were building. They’re true builders working in DeFi for all the right reasons. Probably should have used BREAKING! when we posted this new @Edge_Pod, but I throw up every time I see KOLs play that clickbait game on Twitter. However, this really was a first of its kind, totally unexpected conversation with @hal2001 about why @AcrossProtocol might be better served with a token-to-equity conversion, going private via a token buyout for ACX holders. I'm still extremely optimistic about tokenized ownership and Hart was also very early to this movement to build onchain and work with tokens. However, I certainly pause and think whenever someone like Hart raises their hand to say something's not right here and there might be a better way forward, at least for Across. I would rather see a number of good DeFi protocols go private and keep building valuable money legos, than work with a less optimal tokenized business that eventually dies off due to apathy. We are experiencing a real transition to grant tokenholders shareholder rights and get rid of the mindset to launch governance tokens with no value accrual. Across is not suffering from apathy and they are doing important work for interoperability, intents, and stablecoin infra. I think that shines through in this conversation. We had absolutely no idea until recording what they were going to announce and during the recording we worked with limited information beyond what Hart could answer since the announcement hadn't gone live yet. We edited the final pod the day of the launch after Across posted the official proposal so we could include more screenshots/details from the announcement. As a token maximalist, I encourage you to listen. There's some uncomfortable truth and I think a number of founders will be watching this play out to consider whether this might be an option for them in the future.
