For all his experience as a skeptic Shermer doesn't seem to get the conspiracy trust divide, or he ignores it on purpose.
Most photographic evidence in my lifetime could be trivially faked and I wouldn't know it. Assuming you have some reason to think world governments are lying about the moon, you have no reason to trust any pictures they produce either. You or I have no way to verify the chain of custody of pictures or interrogate their authenticity, and we have no independent life experience about what a genuine picture from space is supposed to look like.
The reality is that photographic evidence is only as good as your trust in the source, and conspiracists don't trust your sources.
