@MeatOozy @SharpFootball We had the 3rd overall pick in 2021, we traded down to 11 and then back up to 6. If we stayed at 3rd, we could have had Chase.
And yeah, Burrow went before Tua…that speaks to my point about the Dolphins not being able to tank properly.

This is the part that gets me. These players literally cost less than the ones we signed.
Their wages are higher, whatever. But if we simply signed less players, wouldn’t our total wage bill be lower? And we’d have a better XI?
Same goes for our defenders.

Waddle is so good man. Too small to be a high volume WR1 but next to Sutton/on a Broncos offense that always spreads the wealth, he's just perfect.

@flameosumeet I hear that but the problem is the level of player we want isn’t always available in the market so sometimes we have to go for a young player hoping he reaches the level.

@Socrates_1O Anomaly, IMO. PSG scored like 7 of their last 9 shots against Chelsea, that’s not normal. Still embarrassing, sure.
Newcastle got spanked but they’re not really a good side. 9th in England. I think Arsenal could put 5-6 past Getafe, who are 9th in La Liga.

@flameosumeet Don't think these narratives are born out of us losing the ties, its more about the embarrassment, getting hit for 7/8 isn't normal at this level and its happened twice in a week.

I think this is partly true but my take on this is more boring—the English teams got difficult draws and got dumped by clubs who are just better.
That doesn’t mean any singular league is better than the PL, just that there are much better teams in Europe.

This UCL campaign is hopefully a lesson to all PL teams that having a team full of bricklayers and plumbers won’t get you anywhere outside of England. Either play football or get brutalised by these technically superior foreign clubs

That said, the OG point here is true. The English clubs need to recruit differently if they want to take down Madrid, Barca, etc.
That also doesn’t take away from the fatigue effects of playing in England and how that affects them in Europe. But also, the English clubs don’t have the elite talent they once used to.
The floor of the league is just incredibly high, as seen by Spurs battling relegation but finishing Top-8 in the CL.
This whole discussion requires a bit of nuance, but once you have it, I don’t see what’s up for debate. It’s all pretty obvious, right? There are more good PL clubs than any other league, but the top of the league is not the best. Fair?

@flameosumeet One of the problems is our recruitment is bad. We don't sign elite players and we don't sign any hidden gems. We just sign obvious mid tier players. Delap, Garnacho, Gittens, players with some notoriety but not actually anyone noteworthy

I can’t stop thinking about where Chelsea/Clearlake go from here.
At minimum this summer, we need a left winger, a midfielder, a CB, and we have to pray that Colwill returns at the same level.
And these players all have to be good, otherwise we will repeat the same season. Does anyone actually think we can pull that off?
