Just days before the Slovenian parliamentary election, a major scandal exploded.
Opposition leader Janez Janša (former Prime Minister and leader of the right-wing SDS party) has been accused of secretly meeting representatives of the controversial Israeli private intelligence firm Black Cube.
According to reports, Black Cube officials — including CEO Dan Zorella and high-level adviser Giora Eiland (former head of Israel’s National Security Council) — visited Ljubljana and met with Janša’s circle in December 2025.
Slovenia’s own intelligence services confirmed the visits.
The timing is highly suspicious: shortly after these alleged meetings, the Slovenian government suddenly decided not to join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Officials cited “security risks,” noting that much of Slovenia’s cyber defense systems are of Israeli origin.
Prime Minister Robert Golob called the operation “high treason” and foreign interference in Slovenian democracy.
Janša admits knowing one of the individuals and that a meeting took place, but strongly denies any wrongdoing or hiring Black Cube for election purposes.
Many in the region see this as part of a wider pattern: politicians who dare to criticize certain foreign policies or question unconditional support for Israel suddenly face scandals, leaks, or pressure right before elections.
Is this a legitimate security concern — or a coordinated attempt to smear and neutralize a leading right-wing voice before voters go to the polls?
