Talk in Mexico - where the news of a "change" did leak before a change has actually been confirmed, and is now in question - is that weather isn't the only concern, but also security given the public order issues around the Ecuador game.

@MiguelDelaney The proposed change in kick off time (to 7pm BST) seems remarkably convenient for securing a much bigger broadcast audience in the UK and Europe more generally. Total coincidence I’m sure.

@https_piercey @MiguelDelaney They don’t to secure a bigger audience. FIFA got paid for World Cup TV rights years ago for this World Cup, viewing figures are absolutely irrelevant

@LFCRed4life Wrong. If the domestic broadcasters in Europe receive greater viewership at a better time slot, they can charge more for their advertising slots, which makes them more money. Then when the next world cup comes along, FIFA can charge more money for media rights

@LFCRed4life Not to mention all the sponsors of the tournament, who will be a lot happier with their ads, LED boards, etc being shown to potentially tens of millions more. Yes they've already paid, but the relationships are sweeter, with room for more £$€ at the next one
