Interesting comparing 2003 prize money for World Champs with 2025. I believe the only reason it is higher now is that WA uses money it took from Russia to bolster the prize pots (instead of, you know, giving it to the athletes who had it stolen from them) Let’s just say those amounts were worth a lot more in 2003. Combine this with our Athletics Canada direct funding being unchanged since before 2017; and our Sport Canada funding lagging well behind inflation the last 20 years - not to mention the huge decreases in race prize money in the last 15 years that I’ve been racing internationally - and it is way harder to get by financially today compared to when my career started.
