Every analytical person has a mental image of the worst DM they've ever received.
"Bro! Love your content! I help entrepreneurs 10x..."
That mental image is why they never send a single outreach DM themselves.
It's not a business fear.
It's a social identity fear.
"I don't want to be that person."
So don't be.
Be calm.
Curious.
Genuine.
Decent start:
"Hey [name]. Saw your post about [some issue they shared]. Curious how you're approaching it."
Already miles better.
But you're already thinking: "that still feels like a script."
Trust that instinct.
Drop the template.
Find something they actually said that stuck with you.
Agreed with.
Disagreed with.
Couldn't stop thinking about.
That's your first message.
They reply.
You talk.
Somewhere in that conversation you mention what you're building.
Not a pitch.
Just: "here's what I'm working on."
What happens next:
Mostly nothing. Devastatingly anticlimactic.
Sometimes a polite no. Warm. Not a death sentence.
Occasionally: "Actually yeah. I've been dealing with this."
If they show interest: relax.
You've found someone with a problem you know how to solve.
The conversation got you there.
Not a script.
At some point you'll offer to help.
At some point you'll name a price.
This is not selling.
This is what happens when curiosity meets expertise.
The obstacle was never the conversation.
It was the 5 seconds before you hit send.

You know what it is.
Ship something ugly.
Learn from the response.
Fix what's real.
That's the only research that pays.
