@Plz_Relax_ A tutor is petit bourgeois. A professor and teacher is not. If it's part of a larger institution that sets boundaries of what you can and cant teach, then it's not petit bourgeois. Petit bourgeois has control over his means of production.

@tankwycheck @draculauras17 People act like tenure is something you own and you can just do whatever you want after that. This isnt true. You still have to do what the university says. This is like saying being in a union makes you petit bourgeois because it protects you from getting fired for striking

@tankwycheck @draculauras17 Also, tenure do not own the means of production. You still have to follow a syllabus and stay on a track the university prescribes to you. You do not own the means of your production, you are given parameters to what you can produce otherwise you can lose tenure

@pissvortex By almost every definition a teacher or professor is a worker for an institution that makes them produce a commodity that they dont see the full value of in their paycheck.

@pissvortex Most academia are adjunct professors now who get paid to produce value for a private or public university for a profit or for break even costs. The professor sells his labor time to produce the commodity of education for the consumers. They are exploited for their value

The “intelligentsia” as a “class” has historically been like sympathetic at best to communist movements but its a stretch to say they’re inherently bourgeois unless we’re counting tenure as a form of property (kind of true but very postmodern), which would not apply to most profs

And if you want to cede that concepts like tenure can be property i feel like that’s a bit of a slippery slope to accepting that “whiteness” is a form of property — an argument that i’m open to critically but it’s not really orthodox marxism in any way

Their pay gets worse and worse every year as the institutions find ways to increase profit. They work as a business
