JUST IN: President Nangolo Mbumba has revealed in court papers that he planned to extend additional voting to all polling stations of the November 2024 general election, but he was advised otherwise by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) to confine extended voting to a select few polling stations in Khomas, Oshikoto, Kunene and Oshana regions. He made the revelation in his founding affidavit opposing the application brought by the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), which seeks the nullification of the election results, citing irregularities. “I considered extending the voting period at all the polling stations. The [ECN], through counsel, advised me that it was not necessary or practically achievable. Therefore, I adhered to the commission’s recommendation,” Mbumba said, adding that his ultimate decision was still fully constitutional.
