@Earthyundertone

My views are my own, and probably illegal in Venezuela and Texas. A right of centrist with liberal tendencies working in a creative field. I'm stuffed.😳

Chris Hipkins insists he never saw advice that cautioned the Government against mandating two doses of the Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine for 12 to 17 year olds - despite a cabinet paper that featured the advice in his name. thepost.co.nz/politics/36097…

@ChimpChronicles @SimeonBrownMP Lol, maybe learn to tell the difference? Its now established as a fact that Hipkins and the cabinet were told about the dangers of a second vax to children under 19 and its a fact that they chose not to act on this info.

Parents are right to ask whether Hipkins raised questions when concerns about 12-17 year olds were put to him. Transparency is essential to building and maintaining trust, and it underpins our focus on lifting immunisation rates so Kiwi kids get the best possible start in life.

@tauhenare @ClintVSmith Nope.. and I would have hoped that someone who was a minister would understand that if money was being spent in one area then it cant be spent in another - hence no additional GST (also excise is per litre, and consumption is going down not up).

@ChimpChronicles @SimeonBrownMP Wait, youre making an assumption about the decision she would have made, if she had the facts that she didn't have.. based on her stand point prior to knowing stuff she wasn't told? Ok then...

@Earthyundertone @SimeonBrownMP I’ll try to explain it different way - if she was in charge, should would be inclined to ignore risk warning as she was frothing at the mount to vaccinate all children at schools

@ChimpChronicles @SimeonBrownMP I'll try explaining it a different way.. Did she have the same information cabinet had? Was she briefed by MOH like cabinet? Did she have decision making capability? Nope? OK then.

@SimeonBrownMP What about your mate Erica Stanford who wanted to vaccinate all kids during the Pandemic. Did she ignore the same advice?

@LewSOS Slavery was a blight on every single country, over thousands of years. I don't think there is a single nation or race on earth that can claim clean hands.

Most medicines spent nearly seven years on wait list for funding rnz.co.nz/national/progr… Pharmac need $300million to fund all the medicines on their list. This govt chose to fund Philip Morris's heated tobacco products, banned in Aus & unapproved by Health, costing $300million

$10,000 to sit with the PM.
$5,000 if you’re less important. Meanwhile, families are choosing between fuel and food. Christopher Luxon isn’t just out of touch — he’s putting a price on access. And it’s obscene.

@liamvincent26 Its difficult. At the end of 2023 we already had high inflation, recession was setting in and "cost of living" was everywhere. How do you give people back some money without over stimulating the economy and locking in high interest?

@Earthyundertone Maybe, but I’m not sure their first budget was the optimal time for it. I think the Key govt deferred their tax changes by a year because of the GFC.

@liamvincent26 When a minimum wager earner is hitting your third tax bracket, its probably time to move the brackets.

@Earthyundertone With the marginal rates I’d imagine the bulk of a minimum wage earner’s income was still being paid at the lower rate though.

@liamvincent26 The fact was that Labour had raised the minimum wage rate to the point where the lower tax thresholds were near useless. And restoring interest deductibility eased pressure on rents. It was the lower middle that was being hammered.

@Earthyundertone I can’t really reconcile National claiming that Labour left us in bad fiscal shape and then cutting out a bunch of tax revenue generated by middle class income earners.

@liamvincent26 Nah, that's usual ideological burp from Treasury. The relationship between Treasury's advice and its proponents is a toxic relationship between ideological extremism and intellectual credulity.

@Earthyundertone When you’ve got treasury now advocating for tax increases I’m not sure that was a good decision.
