@ChimpChronicles @SimeonBrownMP Lol, maybe learn to tell the difference? Its now established as a fact that Hipkins and the cabinet were told about the dangers of a second vax to children under 19 and its a fact that they chose not to act on this info.

Parents are right to ask whether Hipkins raised questions when concerns about 12-17 year olds were put to him.

@tauhenare @ClintVSmith Nope.. and I would have hoped that someone who was a minister would understand that if money was being spent in one area then it cant be spent in another - hence no additional GST (also excise is per litre, and consumption is going down not up).

I’ve had recreational fishers on Mt Roskill doorsteps tell me how angry they are about Govt plans to remove size limits among other changes as part of a sweetheart deal with the commercial sector. Following huge pressure from Labour and rec fishers the proposal is now binned.

@liamvincent26 Its difficult. At the end of 2023 we already had high inflation, recession was setting in and "cost of living" was everywhere. How do you give people back some money without over stimulating the economy and locking in high interest?

@Earthyundertone Maybe, but I’m not sure their first budget was the optimal time for it. I think the Key govt deferred their tax changes by a year because of the GFC.

I generally support the relief package, but those tax cuts in the first budget are starting to look like more and more of a mistake.

@Earthyundertone With the marginal rates I’d imagine the bulk of a minimum wage earner’s income was still being paid at the lower rate though.

@liamvincent26 The fact was that Labour had raised the minimum wage rate to the point where the lower tax thresholds were near useless. And restoring interest deductibility eased pressure on rents. It was the lower middle that was being hammered.
