@Earthyundertone

My views are my own, and probably illegal in Venezuela and Texas. A right of centrist with liberal tendencies working in a creative field. I'm stuffed.😳

I reckon the social housing lottery comment will stick with Willis for the rest of her political career, like "I'm wealthy and sorted", "I'm entitled" and "bottom feeders" has for Luxon. Historic day.

@KatrinaBiggs2 National is a "broad church" largely based on financial conservatism. That does not extend to social issues as well as Labour (who want to own every "marginalised" group), Act or NZF. National is socially more live-and-let-live, IMHO.

In Winston's nationalise the BNZ speech, he refers to using the NZ Future Fund to partially pay for it. There is no such fund - but Labour has proposed one. This implies that NZ First is planning to put Labour into power, as their policy is contingent on Labour winning.

@notvinceyk @dpfdpf @saltyreigns Winston put Labour into power in 2017. They were unpopular at the midpoint in that term, but Winston made them palatable enough that the Covid election ment they stormed home (though National did screw themselves). JA had good intentions, she just ran a shit govt.

@Earthyundertone @dpfdpf @saltyreigns Winston didn’t put Jacinda into government in 2020. Kiwis did that. If you like Jacinda why are you saying it’s bad that Winston went with Labour in 2017?

Labour’s policies are full of secrets. Here’s what isn’t. Our state owned enterprises returned $680 million to the Crown last year. That money pays for schools, hospitals, roads and police. Chris Hipkins wants to divert that money into his so-called Future Fund, handing it over to tech bros instead. But he refuses to say which public services he’ll cut, how many new taxes he’ll slam on Kiwis, or how much more he’ll borrow to make up the shortfall. Chris Hipkins needs to be honest with New Zealanders.

The "tax cuts for tobacco companies" is fine from Labour punishers on X but disturbing to see from real-life MPs and candidates given it's wrong multiplied by wrong. 1. Tobacco taxes have continued to rise. 2. It is people that smoke that pay them not tobacco companies.

@Earthyundertone @dpfdpf @saltyreigns Jacinda is a terrible piece of shit we can agree on that. However, you’re essentially saying that over 50% of kiwis experienced the worst government ever then voted for it again. Not logical.

@JamieEnsor This must surely be the last nail in Hipkins leadership. Its got so many holes it cant even be classed as a policy. Not to mention, if they could work out where to get the money, how they would replace the money etc, the govt is still crap at picking winners (SolarZero anyone)?

Labour’s Barbara Edmonds told me today there is no modelling or projections for how many jobs the Future Fund policy could create. She says it will depend on the assets included in the policy, but the party hasn’t decided on them (and wouldn’t until after the election).
Jamie Ensor@JamieEnsor

Labour won't release details behind one of its main policies until after the election. No projections of how many jobs it could create or what assets could be rolled into it. It's blaming the need to get more advice, including on Treaty of Waitangi concerns. Story below -

@notvinceyk @dpfdpf @saltyreigns Ok.. my mistake. Winston was part of the second worst government in NZ history that paved the way for the worst government in New Zealand history. He still put Labour in power.

@Earthyundertone @dpfdpf @saltyreigns More BS. In 2020 when over 50% of kiwis voted for Jacinda the worst government was unleashed. Winston was out of government so you can’t blame him. But you still do because you are disingenuous

@RM4132923623630 @mecorgnz @EerykMcRae You had different opportunities. Arguably Gen-X got the worst of everything, but thats an aside. I would love to have had the opportunities that gen Z has. The actual gaslighting is telling them its hopeless and somehow the state has to fix it for them (by buying a fucking bank).

@mecorgnz @Earthyundertone @EerykMcRae Not only is earthy undertones gaslighting gen z, hes  condescending. Im a boomer. We had the best opportunities that gen z no longer have. Blaming gen z as lazy, or pretending nothings changed, ignores economics.

It takes an extraordinary level of willful ignorance to claim its going to be easier for gen z to buy a home in their lifetime than it was for previous generations.
Earthyundertones 🍸@Earthyundertone

@EerykMcRae @maxxy64 Nope its true. Interest rates are lower. Mixed model ownership is common. Your earning potential is much higher and the variety of housing options is much greater. In fact, name a metric where its not objectively easier?

@notvinceyk @dpfdpf @saltyreigns In 2017 many NZF voters and commentators (including idiots like Cam Slater) were urging people to vote NZF to "keep National honest".. look what fucking happened. Winston created the worst govt in NZ history. Enjoy.

The problem with your argument is the lack of facts. Nz First had a confidence and supply arrangement with Labour in 2005 and had a coalition with Labour in 2017. Winston did not rule out working with Labour before either of these two elections. In 2023 Labour was explicitly ruled out and that is the case heading into this election too. If anything we should be worried about National going with Labour, Chris and Chris seem pretty aligned on many globalist policies. And you would rather lie and take pot shots at the only party who would put NZ First

@EerykMcRae @RM4132923623630 Lol, I have zero self interest, I have nothing to gain by "gaslighting" you, I dont bow to demands for humility because that appears to be required (again, mainly by the left). I have taken nothing from you, and my ability to educate you is sadly inept. Apart from that, spot on.

@Earthyundertone @EerykMcRae If two people have the exact same income, savings, and interest rate available, who can afford the house? The one priced at $400k or the one at $800k? The higher price forces a much larger mortgage, which directly hits the repayment. Price is the main driver.
