@EvidenceOfFaith The more I’m on this app the more I realize I should NEVER pretend to know what other religions believe. Everyone who attempts to explain what my church believes is wrong most of the time. And if I ever present myself as an expert on someone else’s theology, amen to my expertise.

@LW1307 I will say, those members of my church acted oddly (to be charitable). But, in my experience, that can happen in any church, to be fair. Hopefully we’ll get another chance to be friends. I’d buy you lunch just to hear your other stories.

I will admit, I basically do hate and despise Mormons as a group. It may be less than ideal in terms of Christian charity, I don't wish Mormons specific ill, but I have nothing positive to say about them. I cannot say, "Mormonism is wrong, but their people are so nice." When I was in undergrad I struck up a bit of a friendship with a professor who turned out to be Mormon. I had an interest in survival preparation. He mentioned that LDS store 12+ months of canned/preserved food in their homes and that they have programs through their wards. We got to talking, towards the end of the semester I asked, "can I put an order in through your ward for about $1,000 worth of stuff? Obviously I'll pay, I don't expect anything for free..." He said, "Well you're not LDS, so probably not... But let me see..." A few days later he said, "If you help us with our upcoming bottling and canning drive at the pantry, the ward bishop said we can take and process your order too..." I spent 8 hours on one day, 8 hours the next day, I even brought my father who worked the same 16 hours... We both worked 16 hours on their canning drive at their pantry warehouse for their ward. At the end of it, when it was clear we were not interested in joining the LDS, and just wanted them to process our order as originally agreed upon, I was told, "you're not a member, we can't process your order." I wouldn't trust a Mormon to tell me water is wet. I don't do business with Mormons, I don't talk with them, I don't consort with them, I don't want anything to do with them in any context. They are a cult that will act friendly and chummy when they think you might contemplate joining, but when it is clear you are not going to join, they will behave dishonestly and treacherously. This is why they were driven out of every single state they began in and had to flee to Utah. If somebody tells me they are a Mormon I already know I don't want to know them and I don't want them in my life.

@ybobbjr For most of his career, Messi was scoring/assisting at a clip 2-3x more than his best competitors (except Christian Renaldo some seasons). In basketball terms, I’ve never heard of a best scorer doubling up the next best scorer. But numbers aren’t everything, of course…

There are only 6 P4 teams who won at least 9 regular season games in 4 of their last 5 seasons. 5 - Oregon, Georgia, Ohio St., Alabama 4 - Michigan, Ole Miss Only 12 have done it in 3 of the last 5. Don't ever treat a 9-3 season (or better) as a failure.

@chrishardman Another thought on this: most “knowledge” is at best useless and often harmful without the full context, which is rarely provided and never found without significant effort. i.e., Most human “learning”, outside of experience, is more distraction or detraction than anything.

@realDrTT As a Latter-day Saint, I’m grateful for you, Trevor. Faith’s complicated and life can be a bewildering mystery (even with God’s guidance). We all need grace badly. I appreciate anyone who attempts to build bridges rather than burn them and I’m very confident God feels the same.

Feeling a bit down tonight. I’ve caught a lot of flak for defending the dignity and humanity of members of other faiths. I expected some of that. I can handle the troll accounts spewing bile; that is just the nature of this hellsite. What has surprised me, though, is that a few large and influential accounts on my own “team” — people I have respected — have left me feeling ashamed and embarrassed in a way I have not felt in quite some time. I have only been a revert to the faith for a few years, so maybe I am naive. Maybe I should keep my mouth shut. But tonight I spent an hour and a half talking with LDS members about Jesus. They even sat through the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary with me. I thought that was a win. I am not pretending our theological differences are small. They are not. I am not saying truth does not matter. It does. But surely the first step in evangelization is to see the person in front of you as someone loved by God, not as an enemy to be humiliated. Is that not what we are meant to do? To my Catholic family: am I in the wrong here? Anyhow, I look forward to daily Mass in the morning. I know Christ in the Blessed Sacrament will mend this weary heart. And yes, I know I will probably be mocked for this post too, or accused of engagement farming. Whatever. God bless you all.
