Thinking about two rounds of campaigning by #Hackney residents to stop the closure of Children’s Centres. So many time-poor parents & carers out leafleting, demonstrating , fighting, not giving up. Will @hackneycouncil @carowoodley finally listen & stop threatening our nurseries?

.@hackneycouncil you appear to have missed something out (again). You conceded the case because you admitted the consultation was so unfair it was unlawful @carowoodley care to correct the record?
SaveFernbankNursery@Save_Fernbank

This is the kind of cold, callous, inadequate & disrespectful comms sent out by @hackneycouncil officers to #Hackney’s hardworking Children’s Centre staff at affected centres who have been living with the possibility of losing their jobs for months/years for Fernbank. Shameful.

For every £1 the Treasury spent on free legal advice in 2021, it saved the public purse £2.71. A recent report from @thebarcouncil and @Access2JusticeF has estimated the value of investing in legal aid ⬇️
The Bar Council@thebarcouncil

⚖️ Together with @Access2JusticeF, we are urging the government to provide more support for the free legal advice sector at "breaking point". Our new report has calculated the economic value of investing in free legal advice and found that the government saves three times what it spends. The repercussions of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis mean that more and more people will face crises, putting the free legal advice sector under further strain. The new government should adopt a fresh approach and recognise this is an area where it can spend to save. Our Chair Samuel Townend KC said: "The report makes plain how a properly funded free legal advice sector would make a huge difference to the hundreds of thousands of people behind each case, those working in the system and the public purse in just one year alone.” Read the press release and the report: bit.ly/4d7H5Ne

A world in which Tom’s government dismantled the criminal justice system through a decade of defunding, leaving our prisons overflowing. It is also the world in which Tom’s own government released 10,083 criminals onto our streets, for the very same reasons.

There is so much evidence of the harm caused to people seeking protection by the appalling conditions in asylum hotels & barracks. Yet, as this forensic examination by @LInvestigates shows, private companies continue to make a sickening profit from providing that accommodation 👇

10 days ago I sent Chancellor @Jeremy_Hunt a letter (below) asking him to postpone the govt's 20% increase in energy bills on 1 April. Since, SEVENTY major charities (below), & the energy industry trade body have signed up to support the letter. IF YOU SUPPORT THE CALL PLS RT

In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. The reason: The country applies a “Housing First” concept. Those affected by homelessness receive a small apartment and counselling – without any preconditions. And: This policy is cheaper than accepting homelessness.

Before Twitter gets taken over with Christmas-spam, let it be known that if a child in Year 11 with a Sept-Nov birthday goes into care tonight, there’s now a 50/50 chance they’ll end up in unregulated accommodation. That’s because according to this gov, 16 & 17 year olds don’t
