@Simon_Ingari If they want to abuse your privacy with a question they know not to ask in that way … what else will they fudge around your rights?

@TheABB @IWFhotline @ICOnews @educationgovuk @defenddigitalme Oh, I agree. But that is part of the issue. Monitoring and other safeguarding tools are only a tiny part of the equation. Focussing on those misses out on why we struggle to provide walled gardens to help children learn, build understanding and appropriate digital skills.

Some misunderstand and think schools cannot share risk with vendors (I.e. presume the vendor will do everything and they don’t have to worry) when that should not and cannot be a default position. Schools have have and understand the tools to handle this.

@TheABB @IWFhotline @ICOnews @educationgovuk @defenddigitalme It *has* to have privacy by design and by default as core to how it works and then get schools to understand this. There is still misunderstanding by some that schools cannot and should not try to share risk with vendors. Vendors have to give the school the right tools.

@TheABB @IWFhotline @ICOnews @educationgovuk @defenddigitalme It is not any EdTech vendor’s place to decide about where any safeguarding software is run. It has been that way for a long, long time. I know some schools want it, but as a vendor we try to do a lot to get them to think about how they make their choices.

@TheABB I’m always happy to chat with you on it, as well as discuss how vendors can be more transparent.

@PrimaryNetMan @msetchell This is the first real comment about the state a school has been landed in. Without talking to the folk involved it is hard to say where the issues were festering, but I’m interested in what DfE/Ofsted say on it.
