I hate to weigh into this stuff but I’ve witnessed enough bullshit in recent days that it’s not hard to. The idea that the reason that Indigenous peoples have poorer economic and social outcomes than non-Indigenous Canadians is because they come from a hunter-gatherer culture is precisely wrong. In fact, it’s this type of paternalism that led to the Indian residential school system in the first place and continues to hold too many Indigenous people back. Left- and right-wing paternalism has caused us to impose a form of socialism on Indigneous communities—including limited property rights, large-scale government transfers, poor access to private capital, and so on—and the results are predictably bad. That’s why the most exciting developments these days involve land-use and tax reform, economic partnerships and growing own-source revenues—what the @MLInstitute and others have come to call “economic reconciliation.” The growing number of Indigenous communities thriving today under market-based conditions is a direct rebuttal to the notion that somehow Indigneous peoples are just culturally wired to be poor. Paternalistic policies have made them poor. Freedom, enterprise and self-sufficiency can make them prosperous.

Our Canadian canola industry is every bit as important to our economy and jobs as Canadian steel, aluminum, auto manufacturing and forestry. And a lot more significant than the electric vehicle industry. Here is my statement on the 76 per cent tariffs on canola imposed by China today.

@FredDeLorey No disrespect, but what exactly is NS doing for fire prevention?

If you are aghast at an apparent rise in western Cdn alienation consider that our canola farmers and crush plants workers represent a foundational piece of our economy, towering over the central Cdn EV sector in ec importance. But there are more seats in Upper and Lower 🇨🇦.

Some good news for farmers and small businesses. Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that our government will cancel the capital gains tax hike. We want to keep family farms in the family and make it an easy choice to take on the family business. I’ve heard loud and clear from small business owners and producers that the proposed hike would hurt them. It’s good to see the Prime Minister take this step and his commitment to making Canada the best place in the world to start or grow your business.
