The home allegedly had:
-piles of trash
-smash food in the carpets
-no beds in the children's room
-blankets and walls covered in feces
-No running water
They also reportedly had their children taken away at least once before.

The biggest mistake was allowing for an election system with effectively only two (real) choices. You have to run elections of presidents in two rounds. In France they understood this.
