Should you build a single @Shopify app or a portfolio? Start with one app. Go 100% in. Solve one problem really well. Only after that works, a portfolio can start to make sense: - Shared trust. - Shared traffic. - Shared support. - Shared learnings. - Shared distribution. This is such an underrated point. A portfolio only works when each product compounds the others instead of splitting focus. We’re seeing something similar while building Froxi AI distribution and learnings become much more valuable once there’s already one strong product foundation

We rebuilt our entire Shopify storefront from scratch during a rebrand. The result: product page conversion rate doubled. It wasn't one big change. It was dozens of small ones - faster load times, cleaner layouts, fewer distractions in the buying flow, accessibility fixes nobody asked for. CRO isn't a project. It's a habit.

We messed up a bunch of customer emails. Badly. Last Tuesday April 7th, we deployed a code change meant to fix an email security issue to prevent spoofed emails from appearing to come from legitimate addresses. That change had an unintended side effect on contact form submissions. I’d like to say this change was by a dev just carelessly vibe coding a change he didn’t understand properly, but unfortunately the change was proposed by me and reviewed by my cofounder CTO. Instead of identifying Shopify contact form submissions by the actual customer's email, our system started identifying them by the reply address at the top of the email, like mailer@shopify.com. Contact form submissions were then sometimes merged into a single contact record by the AI agent. Any reply sent on those conversations, whether by the AI agent or a human agent, went to that merged contact instead of the customer who originally wrote in. In some cases the reply went to a no-reply mailer address and was never delivered. In other cases it went to a different customer entirely. Ouch. 147 Commslayer accounts were affected between April 7 and April 10. Some of these are pretty bad as the bug was there for 3 days. The contents of these misdirected emails varied. Some included customer names, email addresses, phone numbers and order details. What we've done so far: - Deployed the fix on Friday April 10 at 12:47 UTC. New conversations can no longer be affected - Went through affected conversations over the last 48 hours, reopening them and setting them as unassigned. - Cleaned up the bad contact merges and detached the wrong contacts from the affected records - Added monitoring to catch anything similar immediately. Every affected merchant is getting a personal email from me today with the full list of affected conversations in their account, step-by-step instructions for their support team and billing credits. My cofounder/CTO Tvrtko and I have been working non-stop since this surfaced to contain it and get in front of it. This is the kind of thing that makes you lose sleep but the worst part is that we’ve caused a bunch of manual work for hundreds of people. Running mission critical saas at the scale of thousands of merchants requires more carefulness and we failed at it big time. I’m not going to spin it or minimize it. We broke something, customer data and emails went to the wrong place and we own that completely. If you are a Commslayer user, check your admin email later today.
