Bittensor $TAO is open source - everything Sam built can be replicated, improved, and replaced. My instinct says a new team steps in quickly… and what comes next will be even bigger and better.

$TAO falls 9.4% after Covenant AI exits Bittensor, questioning the network’s decentralization and governance. Covenant AI operates multiple subnets within the ecosystem, most notably @tplr_ai or SN3.

🚨 BIG drama on $TAO right now. Covenant AI is leaving Bittensor. > They built Covenant-72B. > 72B params. 70+ nodes. > No data center. No $100M. > Matched Llama 2 70B. Jensen Huang endorsed it. TAO rallied 90% in March. Now they're accusing the founder of: • Suspending their emissions. • Stripping moderation rights. • Deprecating their infrastructure. • Timing token dumps as pressure. Called governance "decentralization theatre." The team behind TAO's biggest moment just called the whole thing a lie. No rebuttal from Bittensor yet. Biggest builder became biggest critic. Nobody's answered the accusations.

So.. here is what happened @tplr_ai founder took offense to some actions made by #bittensor co-founder @const He/they then made the decision to announce they are leaving the #Bittensor network In the process.. then made the incredible decision to dump 37,000 $TAO worth of subnet alpha tokens across Grail, Basilica and Templar A move that has completely destroyed the investments of everyone who followed and trusted these guys over the past few months/year Expecting anyone to follow you elsewhere after making such an incredibly irrational and dumb decision that screwed all your investors by nuking the token yourself.. good luck This, imo.. looks like a rug for max extraction Maybe that's wrong but that's exactly how it looks to me.. Its a massive fucking shame after Templar had the largest public exposure of any subnet to date, thanks to positive breakthroughs in pretraining I cannot express how disappointed I am in all this #Bittensor will grow stronger.. It always does $TAO

It's a shame how greed and ego can overcome a man. To help prevent this sitation from happening again, here's what we are doing with @lium_io sn51. In bittensor, the owner receives ~18% of the inflation for a subnet. On sn51, we have used this allocation to accumulate a sizable portion of our token supply. We feel that our position is now sufficient to keep us aligned while not being too much so that our token distribution is unhealthy or that we own too much of the supply. As we can see, this creates a risk for the token holders. In order to mitigate that risk, we actively do a couple things. 1. When we buyback our tokens with our revenue, we immediately burn those tokens. This means the revenue is just used to support the sustainable tokenomics and alpha price without becoming potential future sell pressure as a byproduct. 2. We do daily burns of most of our owner cut which amounts to 15-20 thousand USD that otherwise would be going to us and could be used to dump on our holders as happened with @covenant_ai. We need to move away from alpha holders having to trust the owners not to rug and move towards a more trustless system. We have burned ~$100,000 worth of tokens in the last 6 days. Also shoutout to @chutes_ai for both burning their buybacks and locking their owner cut. I hope more subnets move to either start burning excess owner tokens, locking them to be unsellable, and buying and burning revenue. We strive to keep a balance of alignment, healthy token distribution, and sustainability. At bittensor, we always grow stronger and more resiliant from events like this. This is an important transition.

Hi, I run @Nametensor. There’s no straightforward way to merge or standardize, as NameTensor is built on a fundamentally different architecture, fully on-chain and deterministic, versus an EVM-based, mutable registry. That’s exactly why we built it. We felt the ecosystem needed a naming service aligned with #bittensor design principles. Ultimately, the market will decide what becomes the standard. In the meantime, we’ve reached out to wallets and other ecosystem tools to expand support, but these things take time.

Good question. We’re building an ecosystem of use cases that require a NameTensor .tao domain. One of those is the ability to send and receive $TAO from day one (e.g. in @1taodotio), with more wallet integrations and use cases underway. Our focus is on permanent, fully on-chain identity records derived directly from blockchain history. TNS follows a different model. Registering your TNS domain on NameTensor is entirely optional. We encourage everyone to do their own research and choose what fits them best. The migration program simply gives TNS holders the option to secure the same name within the NameTensor ecosystem for free, if they find that useful.

We can’t beat Anthropic at their own game. We need to start thinking about training models through completely new systems; ones that out-perform and move faster. Affine (below) is a solution: a lab that’s just a market mechanism framing the problem “you have compute, you have engineers, how do you get SOTA” Think of it like a global incentivized auto research which pays engineers/agents who lower the loss of a model against RL environments. In other-words, it’s an AI lab but you get paid for contributing to the run by taking the current top model and training it further. The beauty is that we let everything else stay mutable: how you copy, how you train, how you work, where you work, your compute procurement and your algorithms. Just push us. Turns out that’s a very hard game to line up especially when you exist in a global permissionless system which includes a lot of people that speak Korean … But we did it, we trained our first model family, together, that out performed our base, first one in history and just the beginning. Come mine with us.
