Small update on Inochi2D, given the problems that generative AI has caused both to the Inochi2D codebase but also to creatives and by extent our users, contributions using LLMs to generate code, etc. will NOT be merged into the codebase.

Due to issues with model corruption when merging PSDs we've released a small tool called INPFix on our Discord as a holdover until 0.9 is ready for release which will fix such model corruptions. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you're looking for a permissively licensed font handling, text shpaing and glyph rendering solution that is portable, we've developed a custom solution called "Hairetsu"; it's open source, and free! Inochi Creator and Inochi Session 0.9 will be using it!

Note: It currently only supports TrueType fonts and TTF hinting bytecode is not yet being converted to our own internal font hinting VM format. But we plan to down the line support CFF, CFF2, TTF and full support for text shaping complex scripts!

Final announcement for today; given the extensive under-the-hood changes done in Inochi2D to decouple it from OpenGL and D's garbage collected runtime, the next release will be versioned 0.9! Creator and Session are also undergoing major retooling for this update.

Do note that the Unity Plugin will leak a tiny bit of memory every time you press play in the editor, this is due to parts of Inochi2D not yet being decoupled from the DLang runtime and standard library. This should be resolved throughout the development of 0.8.8.

@Ikxi__ @RazorSharpFang @raina_illune Updates have been slow due to major efforts to decouple Inochi2D from OpenGL, and work to reduce its dependencies on difficult-to-compile dependencies. Additionally, the binaries for the SDK are free to download or build yourself, which should be far simpler now.

Character rigging terms are actually so hard for a beginner or a client. like what makes Live2d rigging different from AE Puppeting? Why is the cost of one so drastic from the other? Let me just answer this- Puppeting is an After Effects term for rigging. Yes these programs (Live2d, Spine2d, AE) all sound like good programs, but the big differences are the use cases. Similarities- all of them can be used for animated loops and video mediums like YT videos and shorts. Live2d: Has the best support for 2d Vtubers and JP games. Especially if you are Japanese, there are schools and general support for it in Japan. I found the implementations of shadows and deformation parenting to be the best. Spine2d: Has been the standard for character rigs in games! Most games that aren't Japanese and use 2d moving character rigs use Spine2d as the norm. Also the lightest program of the 3 and is the only one that runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux natively. It's also a 1 time payment to use the program. After Effects: Used for not just character rigging but special effects and motion design. It's the only one of the 3 without a manual mesh tool, making fine tuning a part being the worst, HOWEVER, has the quickest option of character animating. It won't be the best, but it's why it's the cheapest option for character rigging for multiple characters. It's adobe though so it's unfortunately the most expensive to use of the 3.
