Somehow, auto-generated English subtitles ended up being switched on while I was watching a @linguriosa video (a brilliant channel, by the way). Here, she tells us the two main languages spoken in Belgium!

How exciting. A few sentences from now I'm going to translate perhaps the first French slang word I picked up, during the French exchange in 1995. I've always loved the word "bof". Never thought it would come up in a translation! #xl8 #t9n

Is the word "canargus" familiar to any of you? If so, can you give me an example of its use and any additional intel you might have? Thank you.

The EU is holding its election from 6 till 9 June. If you want this unique project giving citizens far-reaching rights, such as skipping passport lines at entry points (pic below), to continue, cast your vote considerately. #EUElections

@GrammarTable Another book you might enjoy is the one that claims that grammar is different in the UK than in the US, e.g., “He insisted that I went” means one thing in UK and something else in US!

I’ve just begun reading this dramatically titled book in the mystery genre and am THRILLED to discover it contains numerous examples from New Zealand.

@anglopremier Never mind. I just saw this: "Dependent" is the dominant form in American English for both the noun and adjective, while in British English, "dependant" is more common for the noun.

"shame" seems to be the go-to translation of "honte" (and of "verguenza" in Spanish). But "a shame" is more akin to "dommage" ("lástima" in Spanish). For "honte", use disgrace(ful)/shameful/scandalous/appalling. Don't use "a shame".
