@IrlaLab and collaborators reveals that RANKL therapy reverses age-related thymic decline, recovering immune health in older adults by restoring youthful T-cell responses to vaccines and tumors. Check their study in @ScienceTM. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

One of the alluring and theoretical strategies for extending healthspan and longevity is to rejuvenate the thymus gland, promote an intact immune system. Now there's a way to do that in aged mice. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… @ScienceTM

Vitamin D Deficiency in Childhood Linked to Higher Autoimmune Risk A recent study has found that vitamin D deficiency during childhood accelerates the aging of the thymus, an organ essential for developing a healthy immune system. The thymus helps train immune cells to distinguish between the body’s own tissues and harmful invaders, but when it ages prematurely due to a lack of vitamin D, it becomes less effective. This increases the risk of autoimmune diseases like type 1 diabetes, as the immune system may mistakenly attack healthy tissues. The research underscores the importance of adequate vitamin D intake, particularly during "vitamin D winter" when sunlight is insufficient for natural production. Ensuring children receive proper vitamin D supplementation during these months could help prevent autoimmune disorders.
