When a leadership PAC doesn't spend most of its money on politics, it raises questions about where the money is going instead. Leadership PACs have long been criticized by both liberals & conservatives alike as slush funds that raise most of their money from special interests
The Frontier@readfrontier

Federal rules do not require U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin to shut down his leadership PAC if he is confirmed to lead the Department of Homeland Security. The committee has spent money on flights on private jets, limousine rentals and luxury hotels. readfrontier.org/stories/markwa…

Lawmakers in both parties should continue to push Congress to pass the bipartisan Restore Trust in Congress Act
Michael Beckel@mjbeckel

Reps @timburchett (R-TN) & @AOC (D-NY) are right: The so-called Stop Insider Trading Act won't actually solve the problem of insider trading. Lawmakers in both parties should continue to push Congress to pass the bipartisan Restore Trust in Congress Act thehill.com/homenews/house…

The SAVE America Act would centralize dangerous voter-screening power in presidential appointees, undermining the Constitution’s design, warns Cato’s Walter Olson. He notes the urgency: after trying to overturn a lost election once, Trump could gain new tools to challenge voter eligibility again. #CatoSOTU

That’s why Congress needs to act – by setting national districting standards, requiring independent redistricting commissions, and banning mid-decade redistricting. Read our full breakdown here ➡️ issueone.org/articles/how-l…

In this situation, timing is everything. Depending on when the case is reviewed, maps could be redrawn to lock in power, leaving voters with less say over their own representatives. (3/4)

The Supreme Court could shape who controls Congress in 2026 — before a single vote is cast. Here’s how. 🧵 In Louisiana v. Callais, the Court could weaken Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 — one of the last tools voters have to fight unfair maps. If that protection falls, states could redraw congressional districts right before the midterms. (1/4)

For years, Republican leaders warned that federal mandates would be a “power grab” and a partisan takeover. As President Trump calls for taking control of elections, we applaud the Republican Senators standing against federal overreach. But protecting state authority shouldn’t depend on which party holds power. The constitution hasn’t changed. So why have some GOP leaders? Call you Senators:: 202-224-3121 📞Here’s your script Hi, my name is [Name], and I’m a constituent from [City, ZIP]. I’m calling to urge [Senator’s Name] to oppose efforts to nationalize elections and to protect states’ constitutional authority over election administration. Please stand for state control of elections and reject federal overreach. Thank you!

A legal reckoning for Big Tech has been taking place this month in Los Angeles ⚖️📱 For nearly 30 years, the #BigTech platforms have been shielded from responsibility for the dangerous design of their platforms, as real-world harms continue to rise. This month, the first lawsuit of 1,500+ cases in LA County is heading to trial, and the leaders of Meta and other big tech companies will testify about whether they knowingly addicted Americans online - causing health harms for kids, as far as suicide. These trials, paired with growing acknowledgment from lawmakers that big tech’s legal immunity is outdated, is a key moment for justice. So keep your eyes glued on Los Angeles and keep the pressure on Congress to hold big tech accountable!

Today, the House Homeland Security Committee held an “accountability” hearing on our immigration agencies. After 3.5 hours of testimony from ICE head Todd Lyons, CBP chief Rodney Scott, and USCIS director Joseph Edlow—very little accountability actually happened. Credit where it’s due: Issue One thanks Chair Garbarino for holding the hearing. That matters. It’s a first step. But if we’re serious about accountability, we need more: --Independent investigations without federal interference --Real answers—not talking points DHS funding expires at the end of this week. So we stay loud. Because federal agencies work for us. They should protect human life — and be accountable to the people.

Breaking News: Warrant in Fulton County Election Office FBI Raid Just Unsealed Fulton County’s 2020 elections were recounted, litigated, and repeatedly reviewed — with no fraud found. Yet the FBI raided the county election office and seized 2020 election records. The warrant authorizing that raid has just been unsealed. Our quick take: The warrant raises serious questions about probable cause. Its allegations rely on long-running claims of 2020 election fraud — claims rejected by multiple recounts, audits, and court cases. So where is the evidence of fraud or intentional misconduct that would justify this intrusion more than five years later? These elections were already reviewed and settled. The results are final. Reopening them risks undermining confidence in future elections. This could set a troubling precedent that could chill election administration and invite more executive interference nationwide.

.@RepJulieJohnson: “Our number one job on this committee is to make sure we do not disenfranchise millions of voters. And this bill does just that.” She’s right. The MEGA Act’s proof-of-citizenship, strict ID rules, and Election Day receipt deadline could block millions of eligible voters—especially seniors, married women, military, rural, and low-income Americans. #MEGAAct

.@RepJoeMorelle highlighted concerns about nationalizing elections. “All these bills [SAVE, SAVE America, and MEGA Acts] have the same outcome. They’re the Trump election takeover bills, because the President said so himself... These bills would destroy states’ power to run elections.” Our take: The MEGA Act claims to build trust, but it centralizes control and risks doing the opposite. Trusted elections rely on local expertise and stable funding, not a federal takeover. #MEGAAct

.@AbBollin said the MEGA Act's federal requirement for documentary proof of citizenship is needed. But the truth is that states ALREADY have measures to verify citizenship, and 21 million Americans lack ready access to a passport or birth certificate. #MEGAAct
