indigenous populations such as the Khoisan and later Bantu-speaking communities were established centuries before European arrival. Dutch settlement only begins in 1652 under the Dutch East India Company at the Cape, followed by British control. That timeline alone makes it clear Europeans were settlers, not indigenous in the same sense.
