My modest accelerator just completed its 36th cohort Supporting founders in year zero and year one is the hardest work in the business, with the slowest payback time horizon Yet, it’s the most thrilling and rewarding thing you can do. Excited for LA37 starting in the fall If you were rejected by YC or a16z speedrun, forward your application to me at yc@launch.co, and we will take a meeting
LAUNCH@LAUNCH

8 startups. 8 VCs. 3 days in San Francisco. We took our latest Accelerator batch on a pitching Road Show... and they delivered. 🤝 Here are the VCs' top picks 👇

I hate this post. I don’t believe in taking money off the table until you’ve created real value for real people. And when my moneys off the table, there’s no Ferrari in the back— my mom, my brother and all the people that supported me are getting a wire the next day.

If you’re in/around the administration, you're obligated to keep up the narrative that AI is creating jobs. If you're a Democrat or America First/America Only, you're obligated to spread the job destruction narrative. That's how AOC and Steve Bannon find themselves on the same team. If you're an independent thinker, you understand that we will have massive AI job *displacement* combined with profound abundance (lower prices, shorter work weeks and new jobs) This means extreme winners AND losers, which will require thoughtful change management.

@JamesonCamp @preston_holland Private aviation is about the pain and suffering of the terminal, as well as the flexible to leave when you want. These service solve the first but not the second

@preston_holland Never flown private but 1st class in a pod I have a decent amount and like why tf would I prefer a smaller plane where I’m like 6 inches from strangers with less food and services options for more money?

1. G550’s can’t fly at the pace an airline can. Maintenance intervals faster. 2. Part 380 is a very tricky regulation (by the seat regs, which is how JSX does it) 3. Yoywould need to own a lot of them to make money. Charter is hard. 4. A seat with strangers on a G550 is arguably not better than an isolated pod in Delta One. Much more eye contact. 5. This already exists (but with dogs) with @dogsflyfirst but they don’t own the assets (the key).

Great, now I want to start an airline. Is this biz viable? No idea, but finding customers would be the easy part. I'd go to JFK and/or La Guardia every day & buy any refundable or cheap flight, just to get me through security. I'd bring a suitcase full of marketing materials. I'd then go to the gates with the flights leaving for London & shamelessly sell my service to everyone waiting to board. If you do that long enough you'll have enough reoccurring customers to build a business with 8 figures of profit. On paper, that is. Everything looks better in a spreadsheet. I have done 0 research.

There will be significant AI job displacement. The only question is how fast we can manifest new jobs. The AI washing claim was accurate for the first couple of rounds of layoffs, but the ones this year are explicitly because owners think they can do more with far less. And the owners are correct. You can easily job proof yourself by being AI-first, starting a company or joinging generation toolbelt.

@FredLambert @NicSD6 their position is that unlimited open immigration is untenable. anyone who has lived with unrestrained immigration agrees with them

@NicSD6 Indeed. My whole point is that they have none. They are trying to justify being assholes who can't put themselves in other people's shoes because it doesn't serve their own narrowminded view of the world.

I'm looking for a theater in Tokyo that can fit 300-500 people to do some live podcast shows while I'm there in the summer. ... just hit reply with the venue.

Bill Gurley: Anthropic Thinks It’s Building God @Jason: It is the ultimate level of narcissism and delusion of grandeur to think you can create God. @bgurley: “Anthropic is a mystery to me. I've never, ever seen a company that is both leading their field and the most negatively outspoken commenter on what they do. And my initial theory was the regulatory capture theory. Quite frankly, I think they're very close to achieving that. But then they just got so loud that I've literally, in the past 30 days, read everything I can about Anthropic, and I've come up with a new theory. I call it the Dr. Frankenstein theory. The more I dig, I've met people who, I dare say, think it's their responsibility, and they're excited about, building a species that's superior to humans. Dario wrote this blog post called ‘Machines of Loving Grace.’ It was based on a poem. The last stanza of the poem says, ‘I like to think of a cybernetic ecology where we are free of our labors, and joined back to nature, returned to our mammal brothers and sisters, and all watched over by machines of loving grace.’ Sounds like an overlord to me. And then in Dario's post, he says, ‘It could be a capitalist economy of AI systems which then give out resources to humans based on some secondary economy of what the AI systems think makes sense to reward in humans…’ So I don't think they think they're writing software. I think they're midwifing a deity here.” Jason: “These are delusions of grandeur. Let's call it what it is. They believe that they're so powerful, these individuals, that they can create God, and that by creating God, they are like this Prometheus kind of species. It literally is the ultimate level of narcissism and delusion of grandeur to think you can create God.”

@twistartups People underestimate how much wealth it takes to stop working. Replacing the lifestyle of a high earning professional in a tier 1 city often requires about $10M invested. For a couple with kids, closer to $20M. Much less in places with lower taxes or a lower cost of living

J-Cal says the exact dollar amount at which money stops mattering: $10 million. Park it, earn 5%, and you're clearing half a million a year without lifting a finger. You can go do whatever you want or nothing at all. That's real F-U money. Everything past that is just keeping score.

I think most will find new jobs and they expect their current ones to be eliminated by AI Worst case scenario right now is that we start giving folks an extra year or two of unemployment -- after their 6-18 months of severance runs out. We got through COVID, we'll get through AI job displacement

@Vivek4real_ @jason You know who won't be ordering from Amazon? - all those millions who no longer have a job. You can't have a healthy economy that is only based on supply and unempoloyment-throttled demand.

JASON CALACANIS WARNED AI COULD REPLACE MILLIONS OF JOBS BEFORE 2030. “AMAZON WILL BE 100% ROBOTIC.” “EVERY AMAZON WORKER. UPS, GONE. FEDEX, GONE.” THE AI DISRUPTION IS COMING FAST 👀
