@EWErickson Plenty to criticize in Trump's post. But when Tucker says that "no decent person mocks another person's religion", he may be forgetting 1 Kings 18:27.

I can certainly appreciate that it might take a measure of courage and honesty for a contestant to sing "Imagine" during American Idol's "faith week". That said, it was and remains a nice melody married to awful and horrifying lyrics.

On my show I got Ehrlich to admit he was wrong about his early population doomsday predictions, although to the end he was pessimistic about humanity's future. The ultimate flaw in such thinking is the failure to underestimate humanity's ability to solve problems. skeptic.com/michael-sherme…

@MattBrownEP I see you haven’t read my white paper on the efficacy of creating task forces to study the viability of forming committees that would then be broken into subcommittees and then reconstituted as blue-ribbon panels. You’d change your mind.

A devotion on demons and tunnels: Mark 9:14–32 Jesus gets rather indignant when the man with the demon possessed son prefaces his request for an exorcism with “if you can do anything,” and it’s not hard to see why. Jesus has done this kind of thing countless times at this point. He’s done even greater miracles like raising the dead. Of course He can do this. So why does this man ask for help in such a sad way, with so much doubt pumped into the question? Why isn’t the man sure that Jesus can do something Jesus has repeatedly shown He’s perfectly capable of doing? Well, there’s a way in which suffering gives us tunnel vision, a way in which it renders us incapable of seeing anything outside of our own lives. So here you have a man who, for years, has never known a moment without terror, without the fear that this unclean spirit might finally succeed in destroying his son. That’s his entire focus, that’s the grief that has filled his eyeballs and blocked out everything else. And so, even if the man knows what Jesus has done, he can’t process it, can’t figure out how to apply it to his own life. It might as well have never happened. All he can see is the agony of his son. And so, out of love for this man and his child, Jesus steps into the tunnel. He stands right before the only thing that man can see, heals his son, and opens his full vision to see the greater mercy of God. So, when we say that we should keep Christ at the center of our lives, this is ultimately what we mean–keeping Him in the middle of the tunnel. To keep Christ at the center of your life doesn’t mean that you have to figure out if it’s God’s will for you to have Lucky Charms or Cap’n Crunch for breakfast or that you only ever listen to sacred music or that you only have Christian friends. It means seeing Christ in everything that you experience and endure, whether joy or sorrow. When your life is filled with joy, you see Christ as the source of everything good. And when your life is filled with profound suffering, you see Jesus as the one who can conquer everything that makes you weep because He’s already conquered everything that makes you weep. Whatever you see in this life, see the blood of Jesus that has forgiven your sins, ripped you out of the devil’s hands, and delivered you back into the eternal embrace of your Father in heaven.

@HannahDCox There are of course plenty of clueless/naive men out there, but this is pretty much exactly as sexist as saying that all women need a man assigned to them to correct their tendency toward paranoia.

I actually think all men need a female friend assigned to them to help them with their basic analysis of the world around them. Not only are they easily tricked physically, they also tend to lack the ability to understand the true motivations of others - very susceptible to bad actors

The men who claim that they don’t care about fashion or styling are the most cognitively vulnerable to it. Fashion is archetype creation: many men read “approachable girl next door” into this girl (despite her being a well-known influencer w/ lots of cosmetic work) bc of her modest outfits and subtle makeup / hair. They assign deep character traits to *her* that are actually assignable to her *style* without even realizing that this is happening. Knowledge of fashion, plastic surgery, and makeup dissolves the gestalt into its parts — you can see how a particular eyeliner shape and a particular choice of dress come together to create a persona. Ignorance of these processes makes men extremely hackable

@treywallace It does seem like that the "enforcement" of prohibitions against tampering will end up taking the form of carefully crafted contracts (i.e., "We're owed X if you leave us after singing, and 3X if we can demostrate to a judge or arbitration panel that there was tampering).

One thing from the Dabo Swinney-Ole Miss situation: Make sure players sign *rev-share agreements, and not just ‘scholarship or school financial’ agreements. Might as well get a buyout if you’re going to lose a player via portal. Big difference nowadays outkick.com/sports/dabo-sw…

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: The Fellowship of the Ring is a perfect film. 25 years later, the soul of this film remains vigorous through it’s incredible directing, acting, score, production design and attention to detail. They quite literally don’t make em like this anymore. #LOTR25
