@OldRoberts953 again. Really a bit odd to hold such aggression for someone you've never met. I'm not haughty. I just don't bow down to bullies who feel the need to write or talk this way about a stranger.

I'm not @OldRoberts953 - I'm just someone you disagree with so you feel the need to be unpleasant about it. Bit strange to hold that level of vitriol for someone you've never met, and also doesn't prove or disprove your point.

@narindertweets @linmeitalks The idea that people are living lives of luxury on benefits is nonsense, but doesn't stop people from making crazy claims about it. Remember successive Conservative Ministers spent £15bn implementing Universal Credits to stop this, as a result we spend £10bn pa running DWP

I used to visit homes where people had rent arrears of over £4,000. Funny enough, nails were always done- full set, designer clothes and bags, everyone had a tv iPhone/ iPad etc And guess what - the council would often clear their rent arrears multiple times with huge lump sum payments - Discretionary housing payments, so many would rack up huge arrears again - all of our taxes down the toilet. Ps some people are in real need and try their best and I’m happy they get help but many have no regard for taxes and are more than happy to abuse the help.
REB@REBBrain

@linmeitalks Spot on Benefits used to be there to give you a lifeline. Now it appears benefits are giving people a “normal life”. God I remember the arguments from 30 years ago, “people on benefits have big tvs and SKY”, gone way past that now!

@JamesCleverly The problem the Conservatives have is that they have spent the last few years as uncritical cheer leaders for Trump. Only a few weeks ago they were whispering in his ear against HMG And now it turns out he's a nutter, just like the rest of us always knew

@LordWalney There is a nasty and bigotted tone in the way that right wingers talk about Muslims, that is totally at odds with the experiences of Brits who have actually met Muslims. Nick Timothy knew what he was doing. He was rightly called out for it.

There might be some short term political advantage for this pile-on, but calling for Nick Timothy to be sacked just highlights Labour’s vulnerability to claims it leaders run scared of challenging cultural questions
Lord Walney@LordWalney

I’m not convinced Muslim prayer in Trafalgar Square is an act of dominance. Islam is hardly unique in considering itself the one true religion.. But the fact the PM thinks Nick Timothy should be sacked undermines the claim we are all free to criticise Islam despite the new anti-Muslim hostility definition.

Too many are too polite to say this. But mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination. The adhan - which declares there is no god but allah and Muhammad is his messenger - is, when called in a public place, a declaration of domination. Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook. Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

@jamespriceglos @dominicgrieve_ @elliottengage @NJ_Timothy I am utterly baffled by this. I know loads of Muslims, and the weird caricature you present of them has no basis in reality. The idea that there is some secret conspiracy of Muslims to take over Britain is mad. Bonkers. And frankly it smells a lot like bigotry

It’s just time we move away from this liberalist way of thinking. The encroachment of Islamic practices and teachings (kids not allowed to draw Jesus, don’t eat around people at Ramadan, hijabs on 5 year d girls at school, limits on where dos can go, halal everywhere, cousin marriage praised, to name but a few) is not tolerable for the majority of people in this country. That’s before you consider what emboldening Islamist tactics like dawah means for our public life. Christians celebrating Christmas in a Christian country is not the same as public demonstrations of growing demographic might. It just isn’t.

@stephenpollard I am always baffled by studies like this. If these views are so prevalent why have I never met anyone with them? I have never met a British Muslim who supported Iran or Russia? Hard to give any crediblity to a politically motivated think tank producing stuff like this

Another example of Labour’s tax and subsidise obsession. Tax businesses that employ young people so highly that they stop employing young people. Then Spend tax money subsidising businesses to employ young people.

It’s hardly my job to defend @TiceRichard. But there is nothing wrong with legal tax avoidance. Legal tax avoidance is what you do when you buy an ISA. If you dislike the specific arrangements he had, change the rules. But don’t complain that he was following existing rules.

@Katie_Lam_MP Majority of foreigners are Brits, who lost their eligibility for NHS treatment by living abroad. Before you get angry about foreigners using the NHS stop and think how many Brits use other countries health services. We are the worse health tourists! jon-chadwick.com/2026/02/10/nhs…

NHS England won't tell us how much migrants are costing the health service. They won't tell us how many illegal migrants are using the health service. People can see the pressure that immigration is putting on the NHS. You can't solve the problem by refusing to acknowledge it.
Katie Lam tweet media
Katie Lam@Katie_Lam_MP

The Government doesn't publish the full facts on how migration impacts the NHS - including the long-term costs of hiring from abroad rather than training people here. I've written to the Health Secretary, asking him to publish this information in full, or explain why he won't.
