@Calibremag @alandrummond2 To do everything possible to inconvenience gun owners, supporting the ongoing effort to disrupt their culture, primarily for political points or for a feeling of moral superiority and safety (even if the efforts do no such thing)… or something like that 🤔

@mattgurney “We simply have to operate under the assumption that basically anyone in the province, no matter how unhinged, may now have nearly universal access to the personal information of everybody who lives here, and that there’s not a damn thing any of us can do about it.” Just wow…

BREAKING (Rare use of that from me that isn't ironic.) So, @jengerson has got a story to tell, and it's genuinely shocking. I've known the outline of this for a few weeks now, but still. Reading it all woven together blew me away. What a major, major fuck up.

@StockProtoHuman @cselley Because it is a traditional medicine to indigenous communities and that’s well documented. If you want to look into it further than that, it’s on you. Have a nice day.

@StockProtoHuman @cselley The point of the post was that a ban on cigarettes and broader tobacco products would have an impact on indigenous communities for which an exemption could be sought. Point stands regardless of what academics say about traditional medicines. Feel free to research independently.

@JordanCYork @cselley I would love to see one peer reviewed medical study that suggests tobacco is a health product. Just because I call whiskey my medicine doesn't make it one.

@StockProtoHuman @cselley By acknowledging their culture (and mine, as I am indigenous) I’m not reducing them to anything. You’re the one making light of their culture and traditions. There’s lots of resources out there. Feel free to google around if you want to learn. Here’s one: ictinc.ca/blog/indigenou…

@JordanCYork @cselley If this was any other culture this suggestion would be dismissed outright, but weirdos like you like reducing them to some kind of mystical forest elves with mysterious ways. It's a joke and even the people who don't say so out loud know it's a joke

@cselley You’re right. Both scenarios could cause an uproar. I also suspect some reserve stores currently make decent profits selling tobacco products.

@Pagmenzies @LukeRdeGruchy I tried to make that argument and he suggested my perspective was only good for ragebaiting on X, and that banning social media is the only rational solution 😅. Seems his mind is made up - and I’m not sure why.

@LukeRdeGruchy It never seems to cross anyone’s mind that parents can play a role in governing their children’s behaviour. Or that kids will go to even worse places. Or that they will use their video games. Well, it does, but they don’t care. It’s all about political pandering.

Last I checked, telecommunications was under federal jurisdiction. This will be fun to watch. (PS, while not denying there may be issues, video games, newspapers, TV and radio are all also designed to “maximize engagement.” I look forward to, when travelling, having to verify my age on X every time I cross a provincial boundary.

@erinotoole @WabKinew A ban is the most extreme version form of regulation. I’m not anti-regulation; however, I question whether a ban is necessary or if there are meaningful alternatives we can consider. You seem to have decided the ban is the only way forward at this point. Why is that the case?

@JordanCYork @WabKinew And the broadcast spectrum was also regulated. This is a rational step most countries are examining due to the pervasive and often negative impact of this new medium.

@erinotoole @WabKinew I do remember not being able to watch rated R movies in theatre or rent them. But they were still playing on cable or satellite TV. And my parents paid attention to how I spent my time and what I watched at home. I see social media use being closer tied to my home TV example.

@JordanCYork @WabKinew That is the chicken little argument that will rage on X, but do you remember not being able to go to Restricted movies as a kid? Social media is more pervasive.

@IanRunkle I appreciated your video when you discussed the legalities regarding reposting content, especially regarding reaction videos. I’ve been seeing way too many videos getting attention which offer nothing beyond sitting on camera watching someone else’s content, with no commentary.
