I’m just a doctor, in a state w/o Medicaid expansion, trying to get access to long-acting, injectable buprenorphine for my patients. Between insurance access, prior authorizations, & pharmacy limitations, it shouldn’t be this hard 2 get lifesaving meds for ppl w/ addiction in AL

Daniel Foster from Hosp Germans Trias i Pujol showed association of alcohol w mortality in PWH in Spain. 👉 4.3% drinking >40g/d. 26% in PWID. 👉 MR for >40g/d was 2.09 (RR 4.85) 👉 ⬆️ mortality w >40g/day (HR 4.28), HCV (HR 5.05), CD4 below median (HR 2.58), PWID (HR 4.72)

Amanda Miller from SDSU showed how alcohol use is a predictor of poor HIV care outcomes in women living with HIV (WLWH) in Uganda. Of 304 WLWH in the study, 👉 18% w hazardous alcohol use 👉 alcohol use associated with 3x odds of detectable viral load at 12mo
