☑️ Immigrants significantly benefit the U.S. economy. Beyond producing goods and services, they lower the financial burden on U.S.-born citizens. ☑️ From 1994 to 2023, immigrants generated an estimated $14.5 trillion fiscal surplus, cost less on average than U.S.-born Americans, and used fewer public resources for programs like old-age benefits, education, and public safety. ☑️ Even immigrants without higher education created a surplus, helping reduce the national debt relative to GDP. ✅ Immigrants who entered the US from 1990 to 1993 lowered debt across all levels of educational attainmentm while considerably lowering the debt-to-GDP ratio relative to the US-born population. ✅ Immigrants with higher education generated enormously positive fiscal flows over 30 years, peaking at $1.4 million per capita for individuals with advanced degrees. ✅ Immigrants working in labor intensive sectors substantially lowered the debt-to-GDP ratio relative to the US-born population during this period. Even if undocumented immigrants "(...) used benefits at the exact same rate as all noncitizens, they would still be, on average, fiscally beneficial to the United States both by reducing the debt in real terms and by lowering debt-to-GDP." It was an honor for NHCSL to be at the historic Maryland State House to discuss a critical frontier in health equity: pulse oximetry technology. We joined House Speaker @JPenaMelnyk and House Majority Whip @MartinezforMD, as our partner @Masimo outlined the latest advances being made to ensure accurate healthcare delivery for all patients—regardless of skin tone. Grateful for the leadership of Speaker Peña-Melnyk, Majority Whip Martinez, and @Masimo as they help us improve the accuracy and integrity of healthcare in all of our communities.
