@catholicpat An older member of my parish pointed out it’s because there’s nothing in between Confirmation and Marriage. Parish’s need to get better at social events, dances, things of that nature. Keep the engagement going.

@mattpressberg It isn't 1996 any more. Soccer is massive in this country, full stop. Americans watch more soccer every week than people in any other nation around the world, by a lot. US clubs are valued in the billions now. The WC would be sold out with Americans if we weren't getting robbed.

I blame FIFA for this. The US is a mass affluent country where wealthy people can afford pricey tickets but are generally sensitive to ripoffs. FIFA is pricing this for the type of country with a small hereditary elite class who is comfortable with being treated as human ATMs.
