Update:
So JJ is doing extremely well with the high flow nasal canula. He has been weaning the flow is now down to 2ml. They are going to park the flow here and start weaning the oxygen levels (he has been at 50%). His oxygen and Co2 levels have been in healthy ranges this entire time.
He has gotten there quicker than expected but is at the point to start oral feeding which is so great. Later on today the speech therapist along with the lactation specialist will be working with Taylor to try breastfeeding with him and see if he takes to it.
If this can happen successfully then the conversation will turn to an actual timeline on bringing him home. It’s crazy that we’re coming up on a month of J.J. being in the NICU but it is also crazy that we are getting close to bringing him home when the doctors thought it would be months to bring him home.
Prayers for today:
1. J.J. continues to successfully wean off the nasal cannula and his lungs will continue to strengthen and do more of the work on their.
2. J.J. responds well to Breast and oral feeding and we get one step closer to bringing him home.
JJ, Taylor, and myself appreciate all the prayers and support.

Baby JJ was born with no heart beat for 20 minutes and continuing to progress well 😃 3 week update: So J.J. has been a champ the last few days as he has transitioned to the nasal cannula for the ventilator. The medical team has made the decision to transition to a high flow Nassau Canula at 6 liters. This is not weaning but it does put more responsibility on him and his lungs. This is a huge step as this combined with if we can get to oral feeding means we can take him home. Medical staff has been truly amazed at how much he has progressed at this points. He hasn’t started oral feedings but he has been very receptive to a pacifier. Doctors say this a really good sign that he will respond well to oral feeding when the time is right. He is still transitioning off of seizure medications. He just started today take a 1/4 dose of his medication after he was taking 1/2 of it for the last week. He will do 1/4 of this medication for a week and then they will remove it and do an EEG to repeat the process one more time to wean the last medication off. He has gotten his pick out and has less needles and has been able to be held frequently by family. Prayers moving forward: 1. The transition to the high flow continues to progress well for J.J. and his body continues to rest and heal. 2. The weaning of the seizure medication continues to be successful and the Lord continues to heal JJ’s brain. 3. That we get to Oral feedings in God’s time and go home with JJ soon.
