The team at @Arms_Research continues to track the weapons used in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. What follows is a snapshot list of munitions deployed by U.S. and Israeli forces (+defensively by Gulf states). As use is confirmed, these will be added to @MunitionsPortal.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has found more journalists and media workers were killed in 2025 than any year since its records began 30 years ago (2024 was the previous record). Israel was responsible for two-thirds of deaths in both years cpj.org/special-report…

Unbelievable that a man who spent US$75m on a film no-one wants to see about Melania Trump has just fired almost all the foreign correspondents on the newspaper he owns. You might think nothing was happening in this world. @JeffBezos @washingtonpost #SaveThePost

The Washington Post has just inexplicably laid off the entire Middle East team, along with most of the international staff. My heart goes out to all my beloved former colleagues. Anyone who’s hiring, there’s some incredibly talented correspondents now looking for work

This review of the videos of the ICE killing of a US citizen in Minnesota suggest that the victim was simply trying to leave and did not endanger anyone. ICE then refused to allow people to provide medical aid to the dying woman. And then the administration lied about it. nytimes.com/video/us/10000…

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected federal officials’ claims Wednesday that a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent acted in self-defense when he shot and killed a motorist. Frey said he saw video of the shooting and called ICE’s explanation “bulls**t.” Videos taken by bystanders that were posted to social media show an officer coming toward an SUV that was stopped across the middle of a snowy and icy road. As the officer attempted to open the driver’s side door, the car sped away in the general direction of a different officer who was standing in front of the SUV with his gun drawn. That officer, who was knocked backward but not hit, opened fire on the SUV. The car sped toward the curb, crashing into parked vehicles. “This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed,” he said at a news conference. Tricia McLaughlin, the Department of Homeland Security’s assistant secretary for public affairs, said in a statement that a motorist “weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them” during ICE operations in Minneapolis. “An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots,” McLaughlin said. “He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.” Fray said local officials have “dreaded this moment” since ICE began deploying officers to the city as part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdowns in American cities. The mayor also said that while there was not much he could say to alleviate the situation, he had a message for ICE. “Get the f*** out of Minneapolis,” he said.

CBS NEWS EXCLUSIVE: David Maltinsky, a 16-year FBI employee who was weeks away from being elevated to the position of agent, filed a lawsuit alleging he was fired because he had a Pride flag draped near his desk. "I knew I was on a list," he told CBS News' @MacFarlaneNews. "There was fear after the administration came in that they were going to start looking at all of our personnel files, where some of us did self-identify our sexual orientation, some people did identify as trans. So there was fear early on that DOGE was going to collect this and they were going to curate a list and get rid of 'the undesirables.'" The FBI had no comment regarding Maltinsky's lawsuit. Watch more of the interview tonight on the "CBS Evening News."

"Donald Trump’s claims that Mohammed bin Salman knew nothing about the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi directly contradict a CIA report concluding the crown prince approved it. This deliberate whitewashing of the past — alongside an attempt to blame the victim — marks a new low for an administration that shows at every turn how little regard it has for truth or the free press. Trump's remark that 'things happen' and that 'a lot of people didn’t like' Khashoggi echoes the president’s broader efforts to minimize and justify attacks on the press." — @CPJMENA Regional Director Sara Qudah
