A China tem 56 etnias, e hoje em Xinjiang é possível encontrar 55 delas. Um exemplo disso é bairro Liuxing, na cidade Yining, onde reúne 13 grupos étnicos: uigures, hui, usbeques, cazaques, russos, xibo, tártaros, tadjiques, mongóis, zhuang, manchus, dongxiang e os han. As minorias representam 86% da população, vivendo lado a lado em verdadeira integração. Esse bairro, com um traçado em forma de hexágono, agora virou um polo de lazer e turismo cultural, impulsionando mais de 200 empreendimentos locais, o que aumentou a renda anual dos moradores em até 42 mil yuans por pessoa.
