@jack_sperry You also don’t give the keys to your franchise to a 3rd draft pick. There is a reason he didn’t go first or second rd and was the 4th QB drafted in a very weak QB class. If he was as great of a prospect as all the PSU fans think he is he would’ve been picked a lot sooner

If you were hoping the Steelers were going to draft a QB in 2027, I hate to tell you that drafting Drew Allar likely means they more than likely won't be drafting another early round QB next spring IMO. I don't think you draft a developmental QB like Allar with the expectation of him proving himself as an NFL starter in Year 1. I think he's the type of guy you draft, stash & develop for a year behind a veteran, then give him his chance in Year 2. Now, obviously that plan could change depending on what happens this year, but at this point I wouldn't put too high of a percentage on PIT drafting a RD1 QB next year, for better or for worse.

@AustinRBechtold @JoeStarkey1 @KDPomp No but I didn’t want him back before the draft. I want the Steelers to give one of the young guys a shot and if they hit then great but if not go get your franchise guy next year with a much better draft spot.

@MinkahBurgh39 His problem ain’t throwing a bunch of INT’s. His problem is throwing INT’s in crucial moments in crucial games.

Most hate for him comes from ONE game which was the ND one in the playoffs. Which was just really one int that’s all. Jaxson Dart once had 3 ints in one quarter and is off to a good start.

I’m probably delusional for saying this but i really have some faith in Allar. I mean a lot of his issues were said about Josh Allen. Everyone talks about his INTs but it was only 13. Allen himself had more.

@jack_sperry You are out of mind trying to compare Mahomes and Allar. The only thing they have in common is arm strength.

What has me excited about Drew Allar being drafted by the Steelers is he now has a chance to the get the Patrick Mahomes treatment here in Pittsburgh, assuming Rodgers is back for another season, which it sounds like he will be. The Steelers are trying to apply the lessons from the success KC had in finding & developing Mahomes and are using that blueprint to try and find their next franchise QB. Incredibly talented but raw QB coming out with star-level upside gets the opportunity to be coached up by an offensive minded head coach from a west coast offense background with a specialty in developing QB talent & sitting behind a veteran for a year before inheriting a playoff-caliber roster. It was the perfect setup for Pat, and I think it’s the perfect setup for Drew as well. Even better, PIT didn’t need to invest nearly as much in Drew from a draft capital standpoint as KC did in Pat; they get all that upside for just a 3rd round selection. And people always forget the Chiefs were heavily criticized at the time for making that decision as well, for pretty much the same reasons people don’t like the Allar pick here in Pittsburgh (bad footwork, not accurate enough, not enough team success in college, etc) If there’s even a 20% chance Drew could be the next great franchise QB here in Pittsburgh (and with this setup I think the odds are at least that high), that pick was absolutely worth the investment, especially given the fact that this team didn’t have a legitimate long-term plan at QB on the roster (sorry Will Howard fans), and now they have one! It’s also worth mentioning that the Steelers need to compete with QBs like Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Maye, Lawrence, and Herbert, and that’s just in the AFC. If you want to consistently compete with those guys & those teams, you gotta try to find a QB that can feasibly reach that level of upside, and Allar certainly fits that bill with his insane arm talent if he takes well to NFL coaching & development. Just like drafting any other ‘boom or bust’ type of QB prospect, there’s definitely a chance Drew ends up never being a good NFL QB, but with three 3rd rounds pics, this was a luxury pick for Pittsburgh, and when you pair his level of upside with the ideal setup for development plus the relatively low opportunity cost for a guy that could be the next face of Steeler football, you get the potential for this to be one of the greatest picks in the history of the franchise. Now…we can only hope Drew takes this incredible opportunity and runs with it just like Patrick did in KC. It sure worked out well for them; I’m hoping the Steelers are successful in recreating even a fraction of that success with Drew in the years to come.

@MikeAsti11 That was always my concern with him. He always seemed to play bad against the ranked teams. Especially if they were ranked in the top 10.Teams that have NFL caliber players He has all the physical talent that you need to play at the NFL. He just plays bad against better comp

I have had multiple former Penn State coaches tell me they believe Drew Allar’s biggest issues are between the ears. Some have even admitted the system held him back, but they still feel his problems were mental and that will hold him back in the NFL if not addressed.

@Zeuscxc @FDSportsbook I know I watched every game Howard played at OSU and he was the weakest link on that team until the playoffs started. And that was with 3-4 1st rd WR’s and a top tier OL.

@AustinRBechtold He definitely has the physical attributes. Anyone saying otherwise doesn’t know ball but it’s his mental make up that concerns me a lot. What he is lacking isn’t coachable. The fact that he struggled against teams with NFL caliber defensive players concerns me. I hope I’m wrong

@NoahStrackbein I think they need to bring Tomlin back and let him make the decisions. Every pick this year except for like 2 felt like a reach and an overdraft. Omar first draft without Tomlin and it doesn’t seem to good but we’ll see in about 2-3 years from now
