Today, accusations were made by ICE against one of my caseworkers — a dedicated public servant, Army veteran, and experienced member of my team. I have every reason to believe these allegations are unfounded.   It is worth noting that ICE has refused to respond to multiple letters I’ve sent about Camp East Montana regarding deaths, including a homicide; outbreaks of diseases including COVID-19, measles, and tuberculosis; waste, fraud, and abuse; a lack of legal representation or medical care; and so much more.   This administration has a history of engaging in intimidation tactics against Members of Congress as well as continuously attempting to obstruct our ability to provide oversight.   I stand proudly by the members of my team who have demonstrated nothing but dedication and integrity to serving our nation and our community.

.@RepEscobar’s staffer, Benito Torres, repeatedly falsely claimed to be an attorney representing detainees — even signing federal paperwork attesting that he was legal counsel for specific individuals. The facility administrator discovered that Torres was passing a phone to multiple detainees and spoke to him; at that time, Torres admitted he was not an attorney and was visiting as a private citizen. After the fraudulent visit, officials reviewed past visitor logs and discovered Torres had repeatedly represented himself as a lawyer or said he was visiting for legal reasons. ICE records show that Torres has misrepresented himself at least 11 times.

The credible allegations against Cesar Chavez for rape and sexual abuse are horrific. My heart is with the survivors who, for decades, have seen their abuser lauded as a hero. As one of them says: “The movement — that’s the hero."

It's been over a month since @RepEscobar and I demanded answers on the chaotic, surprise closure of the El Paso airspace. New Mexicans deserve answers, and I plan to get them.

Republicans gave DHS an unprecedented $191 BILLION. That could fund every single DHS agency until the end of 2027.

Camp East Montana - the $1.24 billion migrant detention facility in El Paso - has been disastrous and inhumane. DHS’s plan to warehouse human beings here is even worse. I’m proud of our local coordinated effort to prevent it. We won’t stop until this horrific idea is rejected.

I have a bill that funds: ✅ TSA ✅ Coast Guard ✅ FEMA ✅ Secret Service ✅ Cybersecurity It does NOT fund: ICE or CBP, agencies that have killed American citizens with zero accountability. Republicans are blocking it. Ask them why.

The United States already has the largest immigration detention network in the world, and these added facilities serve only as tools for the administration’s inhumanity.

That tent facility should be shuttered, and ICE’s plan to literally warehouse 8500 human beings in Socorro should be terminated.

While I’m relieved that Acquisition Logistics has been fired by DHS, they should also be investigated for the fraud they’ve perpetrated on the American taxpayer. washingtonpost.com/business/2026/…

I cannot in good conscience support additional money for ICE and Border Patrol, especially when the Trump administration has refused to answer our questions and seems committed to furthering the fraud, corruption, lawlessness and constitutional violations we have already seen on their watch.

ICE and Border Patrol have more than enough funding available because of the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which provided a whopping $165 billion for DHS, with $85 billion alone for ICE.

I support funding the Transportation Security Administration, FEMA, and other agencies under DHS, which is why I have instead signed on to a bill that provides a full appropriation for all of DHS excluding ICE and Border Patrol. 🧵
