@ItsInDeKalb Hey DeKalb road repair, please just fix the bridge/road behind sage hill plaza (broken since 8/2023) or at least open it to pedestrians and bikers. I watched your team drive down it so I know it can handle our weight. This is way safer than biking down Clifton.

Feeling very ID-Doctorly right now strolling the hospital with a CAPR in my hand and Cary Blair stool media in my pocket. Ready for anything!

Thought: when states criminalize transition care for minors (for theoretical harm), they should logically also outlaw anything that causes KNOWN harm to kids- like vaccine refusal, or smoking around kids, or storing a gun in the home. Can't imagine any of that happening . . .

@zev_stampfer You don't need that. Just go with Destihl Dill Pickle sour beer. 6 ounces of delicious drink, plus 6 more ounces that don't need to be there.

@jeffm1981 Those spike evolutions are to escape pre-existing immunity from OAS. And shorter incubation doesn't matter if you have good mucosal immunity prior to virus exposure- that's part of the mechanism preventing infection in people who were very recently infected or vaccinated.

@SamInSilico I don’t think so. I think this has to do with a shorter incubation period and the evolution of spike. Most virologists and immunologists don’t agree that OAS is the primary cause of the loss of neutralization.

Why are we still using a wild-type primary series COVID-19 vaccine that has essentially no neutralization against XBB.1.5 in an all omicron world?! It ought to be a bivalent or BA.5 primary series. Hopefully they update this before I have another kid. Ugh.

@jeffm1981 See my response to the other comment. It's original antigenic sin. Somewhat like the issues with flu vaccine at this point.

@SamInSilico Also, every person I know who has received the bivalent dose was infected within a month of receiving it. I was infected by someone who received the bivalent dose. Protection against infection is very low. It’s severe disease we need to worry about.

@jeffm1981 The original matched vaccines had fantastic protection against mild disease. We don't have that anymore due to our immune systems being biased towards that original strain. For a new child, better to bias their immune system towards the omicron variants for optimal protection.

@SamInSilico There is no such thing as sterilizing immunity with any Scov2 vaccine. Your three month old will still be at risk for infection/transmission. The incubation period of omicron is too short.

@jeffm1981 Well right that's why you still vaccinate! But much better to have a well-matched durable antibody response. For example, so that your two year old has sterilizing immunity and doesn't transmit virus to your unvaccinated three month old.

@SamInSilico Because the vaccine illicits a durable adaptive immune response. This hasn’t changed across variants. There is no need to keep chasing variants.

Maybe McCarthy should make concessions to centrist democrats in exchange for their votes, instead of trying to capitulate to the crazy ultra-right congresspeople whose election platforms were based heavily on wanting to undermine our democracy. Or is cooperation that dead?

Just published our analysis of binding antibodies from a third dose of mRNA vaccine for COVID-19 in immunocompromised patients- Moderna as a 100 microgram booster keeps outperforming Pfizer in this group. More details: doi.org/10.1016/j.clin…

Either I miss the northeast or I really love my job. All I know is that I felt true happiness while biking into work on a sunny 15 degree day with little patches of black ice scattered about. Also I think the cold made my hydraulic brakes work better. 😃

@MarieFollayttar @pfizer I was able to get an emergency IND. It took a lot of people and at least 6 hours of work on my part. This needs to be easier.

@SamInSilico @pfizer Have you talked to Dr. Kreitman at the NIH? He works mostly with us Hairy cells but he's at least an oncologist who is covid aware who administers Rituximab. Long haulers like me- want that supply ready before commencing Rituximab. Did u test 4 covid before administering?
