freeway removal through Atlanta is largely impractical in the short term, but we should remove John Lewis Freedom Parkway and replacing it with a surface boulevard. JLFP is a relic of I-485 and is underutilized. removal would reconnect downtown w/ the old 4th ward

@conorsen @Patrick49012564 @ajlamesa I feel like most people really don't understand the GA gubernatorial election. Personally I am just beginning to understand the primary. This and the supreme court results once again demonstrate failures in party leadership.

In Atlanta’s east side — the wealthy, well-educated, white progressive part of town that loved Stacey Abrams, Keisha Lance Bottoms mostly got sub-20% in the Georgia Dem gubernatorial primary (Jason Esteves dominated here): ajc.com/politics/2026/…

@LathburyJason @barely_th3re Just thinking it would be a temporary solution for Marta to reach Cobb and still at a station that has both Doraville and North Springs lines. Could be replaced by Armour should it be built and a stop at Piedmont/Shepherd seems pretty natural here as well.

im sure they could work something out. i wonder if they could instead do a flyover of I-85, and then go underground until a station at Piedmont hospital and then going elevated/at grade on I-75... something like this?

@barely_th3re It would have to be proctor branch to cobb. Too much development where the N/S stub tunnel is at this point

@LathburyJason @barely_th3re Could you connect to Lindbergh instead? (Armour if it is ever built). These tracks are still in use but might be able to add another set.

@barely_th3re We could probably get away with buying out a line of homes along 26th and Huntington Rd, then doing cut/cover tunnel through the area before hitting the I-75 corridor. From there you could follow the interstate, either in median or along one side. Something like this:

Rode the @MARTAservice Rapid A line a couple of times this morning. For the first time in 25 years in Atlanta, I walked out of my house to catch a bus without consulting a schedule! Frequency is Freedom! The line has a ton of potential - but also a lot of kinks to work out.

Atlanta has seen major changes over the last several years. There's legit criticism possible regarding the specifics of development, but I appreciate how much nicer it is to walk beside windows and storefronts versus parking lots and abandoned, littered properties.

@conorsen The person who has cleaned our house for over a decade told us after the 2024 election: 1. she can't vote. 2. If she could it would have been for Trump because she wants to be able to afford a better house.

Adair Park data center site plan is 👎 Land use proposed is disrespectful to neighbors & the city… AND the site plan with sea of parking in what was an active area & block from MARTA… Digital Realty leads GLOBAL market share & has money to design better, elsewhere.

Light rail was the primary intention for the Beltline to be created in the first place. I simply don't understand how decision makers aren't keeping the main thing the MAIN thing 🚊 🚉
Eric Phillips@HowEPhil

Atlanta streets choked with traffic, 2 hours to get out of PCM parking deck, yet BeltLine is freedom with people free flowing. Past time to add rail on the BeltLine to move more Atlantans unobstructed from car traffic. Trail remains open during 🚧 @al_terrell/post/DWurCkvDmXJ?xmt=AQF0N3IXuf1VZE6VE_Od-h1o1gKKEkcSIa65MWUJ7IZsP--3ear1S92f-EKars2rSC0yZnH1&slof=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">threads.com/@al_terrell/po…

@jessecouk @HowEPhil Yes, but Georgia specifically is well placed in our time zone so that it’s never dark before 5:30, and even that is for only 10 days when it’s already cold and people mostly aren’t outside in the evenings anyway. GA is actually wonderfully positioned for year round EST.

"Few people have probably heard of Atlantic Station, GA, but this neighborhood in Atlanta is one of the top spots to live...Atlantic Station offers a dense, walkable setting where residents can live, work, and socialize without relying on a car." 😶 travelandleisure.com/best-place-to-…

@hwxndi I work at Colony Square. I would love to be able to walk to work, but I cannot afford to live in Midtown, as is the case for most people who work in Midtown.

First it was Juniper Street, now it’s 14th Street. Who is demanding all of these bike lanes?!

@MikeConti929 @JackNicolaus If this city continues to be successful and grow the car traffic will get worse. There is not a solution within the city that involves more roads or highways. Sadly many are standing in the way of rail transportation but we can at least build the "last mile" infrastructure.

@JackNicolaus Interesting. Thanks for the answer/information. I hope it works out that way. I love the idea of getting less cars off the road, but we are still such a car-dependent city and I worry about gridlock.
