(🧵1/11) For the past year and a half, I've been investigating OpenAI and Sam Altman for @NewYorker. With my coauthor @andrewmarantz, I reviewed never-before-disclosed internal memos, obtained 200+ pages of documents related to a close colleague, including extensive private notes, and interviewed more than 100 people. OpenAI was founded on the premise that A.I. could be the most dangerous invention in human history—and that its C.E.O. would need to be a person of uncommon integrity. We lay out the most detailed account yet of why Altman was ousted out by board members and executives who came to believe he lacked that integrity, and ask: were they right to allege that he couldn't be trusted? right when mars enters aries on april 9th, it forms a conjunction to neptune for about a week. this is going to be a VERY intense (and confusing) transit. I can just feel it. mars in aries will spark a sense of courage within us to take ACTION. we'll have our torches lit, ready to rush into the unknown haziness of our dreams while only being able to clearly see a few feet in front of us. no matter, the courage will be there, so we won't fear the fog. on one hand, this is a good thing. it gives people who have been fearful of taking action the necessary bravery to finally leap. on the other hand, it's a set up for disaster... a set up for reckless (and even delusional) action with no plan. what I'm trying to say is... by all means, light your torch and run... but also be careful of running straight off a cliff.
