🚫🗣NEW: NI £50m defence deal - ‘I don’t choose weapons of war over people. I’d choose to invest differently.’ First Minister @moneillsf says she did not attend the launch of a £50 million boost for Northern Ireland’s defence sector because she does not support the “militarisation agenda”. Speaking to Chief Reporter @jamesgould23, she said she will never choose “weapons of war over people”. The Northern Ireland Defence Growth Deal, launched by the UK Government, will see investment in tech companies and start-ups to help them enter the defence supply chain. The Government says the initiative will support hundreds of jobs. Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly did attend the event and said: 'We live in an ever more dangerous world that requires strong defence. The threats are real. 'When others are absent, I will always be there to champion our business and our people.'
