I am grateful to the Parades Commission and the PSNI for their efforts to ensure events in Scarva passed off without major incident this weekend. Our job as political representatives is to lower the temperature, bring people together and stand up for the rule of law. Those who have spent the past week attacking the Commission and police, amplifying misinformation, inflaming tensions and spreading hate should hang their heads in shame. MPs should be challenging intimidation and sectarianism wherever it appears, not standing with masked men while vile abuse is hurled. Upper Bann deserves better leadership.

You are wrong. It was a petition raised by myself on behalf of our independent rape gang inquiry, and signed by 260,974 British men and women. Their support meant we forced the topic onto the parliamentary agenda. It is 'opened' by Jamie Stone because he is Chair of the Committee, as you well know. It has nothing to do with the Liberal Democrats, it is his duty to chair it. What you are saying is inaccurate. Last time we had an event in Parliament for rape gang survivors to engage with MPs, you didn't bother to show up. You were invited. I asked for your support. You ignored me. Labour MPs took the time to attend, Reform did not. You posted a picture of yourself drinking alcohol instead. MPs from various parties have supported our efforts - putting aside petty political differences to tackle this festering rape gang scandal. It is a disgrace that you refuse to do the same.

Mythbusting. At 4.30pm today there is a Westminster Hall Debate on an e-petition on the publication of child sexual offender data. The petition calls for all relevant agencies to publish the data on nationality, ethnicity, religion and immigration status of people convicted of child sexual offences. I have been asked to attend this so called Rape Gang Debate today by a constituent. Fact check it is not specifically a Rape Gang Debate as this debate is about all sexual offences committed on children. This debate does not belong to any MP it is a petition debate and will be opened by Jamie Stone MP from the Liberal Democrats. Every MP is automatically invited to these debates. I've noticed that some people are calling for all 650 MPs to attend. This is nonsense as the room only allows for around 50 MPs to sit in the Westminster Hall Committee Room, therefore I can say in confidence that at around 600 MPs will not be in attendance but I'm sure some people will try and make political capital out of a very serious issue and accuse MPs of not being bothered to turn up. There is nothing stopping any MP asking for a similar debate in the House of Commons so all 650 MPs could attend. The online political hijacking of a debate of this nature is very sad to see. It is not helpful and is an insult to all the victims.
