Great post but I think it misses some extremely important considerations. I founded one of the first creator talent agencies 15 years ago and then managed an entire orgs deals for a decade. Here’s my 2 cents. 1) If you want to work with as many brands as possible which seems to be the mindset of this post then you easily can. I wouldn’t recommend it but almost every brand will work with you if you’re willing to do it for free or on commission. That’s not the W you think it is, I’ll explain. 2) Never accept any deal that’s commission only. I’d say never take a deal that’s based on viewership or ccv alone. You’re not a salesman, you’re a spokesman. If they are only offering commission or a ccv/viewership deal than you’re just a number and they are low balling the hell outta you. You’re better off investing that effort into your content. 3) Your content is king. Taking 10 deals for $100 is not the same as taking one deal for $1000. Once you have a following you will get endless offers. If you spend all your time making ads then you’re neglecting your content and your brand. Cherry pick the good ones meaning the ”bags”; more to follow. 4) The 2 points above aren’t just about brand ego and time management. Often the offers based on ccv or views will earn you LESS in the long run than not doing deals. Creator ads hurt views esp on YouTube. Less impactful on stream but money they are spending on products which you’re only getting 10% of is LESS than if they spent that on you via donations or gifted subs. They are stealing your customers and giving you peanuts. There’s a reason they are making ccv or viewership based offers is cause they apply to everyone because no one will take them besides the bottom of the barrel. The equivalent to accepting offers companies spam out to mail boxes for credit cards and home sales. 5) Once you start getting deals from TOP brands like the ones mentioned; NVIDIA, Corsair etc you might think the game changes cause these are known brands but it hasn’t. Working with every top brand isn’t the same as working closely with 1 or 2. In both the eyes of your viewers and future brands looking at you for collaboration. They do the same thing the small ones will do. They will 100% hire ad agencies that will low ball 100 creators, combine their numbers and sell it to a top brand as a campaign knowing creators will take them because it’s a recognizable brand. Don’t fall for this. Working with 20 top brands doesn’t make you more legit or better than anyone. In fact It makes you look like a random that will work for peanuts. 6) Almost all of this advice applies to a forward looking career content creator. But I understand being broke and just starting out. Free product and working with a recognizable brand does help the pockets and ego. Been there. I’ve known creators that used to take deals just to sell the free product on eBay. But it’s a slippery slope. Everyone’s seen creators that start growing a bit and they take every brand offer they can get and start bragging on Twitter. Don’t be these guys. I could list reasons but trust just don’t be these guys. Almost all time spent making deals is better spent evolving your brand and content in the long run. Keep that in mind when choosing which deals to take. Most big content creators take very few deals, that’s not because they aren’t getting spammed with offers, it’s because they only take the big bags cause only the bags are worth it. The bare minimum is the bag. Every viewer you send away from your content hurts you, make sure it’s worth it. But who am I to listen to? Just another random content creator. I guess I should have noted that this was back in 2018 not now. Twitch took my partnership cause I did some streams on FB and told me I couldn’t stream for a year anywhere to get it back. After a year of not streaming they gave it back with 50/50. All the twitch staff members involved in this got cancelled in the me too movement and no longer work there.
