Can you give us a good example of an "epidemic" roaring back? I can give a number of good examples where improvements in hygiene and sanitation have reduced epidemics, i can also give you a great example of an ongoing epidemic that public health refuses to effectively address that could be ended. I could tell you one gold gold that NIH, CDC, public health continue to ignore. Having an open discussing about personal hygiene. Improvements in drugs and pharma get a lot of pressure because they are expensive and companies pay for that press. All the advancements in medicine though have only contributed about 20% to the quality and longevity increases over the past 200yrs. Hygiene on the other hand... had contributed about 30% of that increased quality and longevity at a literal fraction of a fraction of the cost. We have a much more sophisticated understanding of what good hygiene means, yet nobody in public health wants to discuss and our very great and glorious regulatory agencies do not allow companies to discuss how hygiene improves health. I would be happy to discuss how simple programs can save tens of billions... not my math, this is just based off published research.

($50m invested saves about $14B in downstream associated healthcare costs) Children in school... better oral hygiene reduces tooth decay, days missed from school, respiratory infections, and systemic health issues as adults. ($50 per student over 2yrs reduces tooth decay to practically nil until the kids graduate from high school) As adults... bad oral hygiene had been linked to alzheimers, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, Parkinsons disease, and many others. Oral hygiene though is not just brushing and dosing and using a fluoride toothpaste...it is about supporting commensal microbes while suppressing pathogens in the oral and nasal microbiomes. Just letting you know that there is some incredibly low hanging fruit here if you want to make impactful changes that do not cost much at all.

When is the FDA going to recognize the need for improved hygiene education and claims by companies selling hygiene products? We KNOW that improved hygiene practices has done more to reduce chronic illness than all the pharma products over the last 200yrs. If we allowed hygiene products to openly discuss how they work rather than censoring what can be said... we could make a massive impact on reducing systemic illnesses.

Interesting... you are blaming supplements, "snake oil" for 23,000 ER visits annually. That's a zero sum amount compared to the fact that pharma products used as prescribed by a physician is the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States. Not 23000 ER visits... but the 3rd leading cause of death. This doesn't even take into account the deaths from abusing drugs, or using them outside the supervision of a physician. So please tell me again how harmful supplements are for the population... pharma safety needs to be regulated much, much more than supplements. When pharma products have the same safety record as supplements then let's chat further.
